I'm 47 and think hormones are raising havoc!  I am crying at the drop of a hat, threatened to walk away from my husband and kids (SOOOO not like me).  I'm under quite a lot of stres at work, as my job is grant funded and we've been waiting since December to find out if we are refunded - if not I'll be out of work in June.  My husband is finally back to work and working crazy hours trying to get us caught up from his being out of work - he works nights and weekends, I work weekdays.  SO, all of the kid and barn work falls on me after my fulltime job.  Usually I'm okay.  This past week, in my sobbing words to my husband - "nothing is ok".  I'm not sleeping well, anger easily and even though I'm on the pill got my period 2 weeks early.  HELP! Is this early signs of menopause, and if so what can I do - I feel like I could have a complete nervous breakdown at any time!

You should talk to your doctor.  There are several different available therapies to help perimenopausal women transition into menopause.

I work closely with a compounding pharmacy that does a great job at compounding bioidentical hormones for my patients, and my patients have had a great results.  Sometimes just adding an SSRI can make the transition easier.  But you should definitely discuss your options with your doctor.

Good luck to you!

So, I'm not necessarily losing my marbles?  These things could be menopausal related?

No.....you are not losing your marbles!

It sounds like you are having very normal perimenopausal symptoms that you can definitely get some help for.

R2U sorry about your situation but it does sound like peri-menapause to me. I am about your age and I dont have the crying jags but I can get so PO'd at stuff that never really bothered me before. I am on a low dose of cymbalta for fibromyalgia but I do think it helps some with the peri-MP symptoms. I only get really rank when I am a couple days from my period. My dh is warned ahead of time so he can prepare. LOL Seriously, I can't stand to be around myself on these few days of the month. A real monster takes over my body. Please don't feel alone because I also have friends around our age that are going thru the same thing...not fun, but my mom and others do say that it won't last forever.

Holy Cow....same here!  I'm the same age (47), starting to have weight issues, my family thinks I'm bi-polar because one minute I'm fine and then next I'm biting their heads off or tearing up at any remotely sad movie.  When I can sleep at night, it usually doesn't last long because I wake up sweating like crazy.  Had 2 periods last month and guess what...it's that time again!  This morning at Wal-Mart I about walked off and forgot 2 bags of groceries at the checkout....I thought I was losing my marbles too!

Abosofreakinlutely it could be peri-menopause.

You can talk to your gyno and see if some Hormone replacement is in order.

I have found a product called ICool to help with the hot flashes which in turn lets me get a little more sleep.

With the mood swings I started taking a supplement from Swanson Vitamins called Menopause Essentials. I got so bad there for awhile that I would fly in to a rage when a poop ball fell off my manure fork and would be that way for the rest of the day. I could hardly be around me and knew that others were suffering so I did whatever I could.

It's not fair that hormones can affect us so strongly. I am on HRT and ever 3 months take Progesterone for 10 days. I have learned to warn hubby that I am taking it because it can trigger that rage I mentioned earlier.

Please be proactive and help yourself feel better!!!

OMG!  That's it!!  When one little thing sets me off - I'm raging for the day!  And hubby telling me "it's over, get over it" sends me over the bridge!   Now it all seems to make more sense - for those of you who have been in my shoes - I felt like I was totally out of control, knowing I wasn't acting like myself - not able to stop it!  I've put a call in to my dr., waiting to hear - I'd ilke to try herbal/natural stuff first - but something's gotta give - I'm going to go batcrap crazy!

Dr Oz had a show about this very subject a couple of years ago but I can't get the link to post.  If you Google Dr. Oz Perimenapausal Rage the episodes should show up.  I watched all 4 episodes and yep that's me!
Maybe someone can post the link to the episodes -sorry I can't.
