| This is TMI… but I’ve been having chronic diarrhea for quite some time now… my Dr here thinks it is no big deal but I’m beginning to get fed up with it lately and it seems to be getting worse. I can’t remember the last time I have had a solid stool… like it has to be almost a year now! Could I just become allergic to something in the middle of life? I just noticed 5 years ago that I am allergic to tree nuts and never new that before! I’ve gone without caffeine but that don’t make a difference… What else should I try? Any suggestions? |

| Wow, that is a long time. I would definitley start looking at your diet. Allergies can develop at any time in life, even foods that previoulsy never bothered you before can become a problem. I would start with eliminating dairy and wheat but one at a time so you if you see a change you know which it is. Good luck. It may not be a big deal in the scope of things but any doctor who just wants to treat the symptom and does not want to find the cause is not a good doctor in my opinion.

| Give up gluten for a month - get tested for celiac, irritable bowel - I suffered from chronic D for YEARS before I could find a doctor who would look into it, and not tell me I am just too stressed. Turns out I have colitis and celiac. I've been going to the doctor for like 15 years, and they just finally tested me for the right thing. Very frustrating!! |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | Have you tried a heavy dose of probiotics? I did some kind of special cultures in homemade yogurt for my daughter when she was a baby and it was life changing for her. She was born with constipation issues that turned into loose stools/diarrhea for over a year--it affected her growth, it was so bad. My IBS was caused by brain stem compression, but I think that would be very rare. |

What can you eat or not eat on a gluten free diet?

Gluten is wheat, rye and barley - it's in EVERYTHING it seems like! No more bread or pasta. Switch to rice or quinoa. You have to totally eliminate it though in order to see if it's a problem, then reintroduce it - you'll know! It's hard to quit cold turkey, that much I can tell you. I eat paleo now (no sugar, starch, etc.) - so a lot of fresh foods - shop only on the outside perimeter of the store. Meats, veggies, fruit and nuts/seeds. It's helped calm my stomach down (I still have issues even after giving up gluten 2 years ago). I hope you find some relief, it's a tough one to pin down! |

Location: The end of the Earth, SE AR | Take probiotics for a month to see if that helps.
Then got to a gastrologist for a complete work up including tests.
Also google "FODMAPS" diet which is an elimination diet specifically for diahrea related Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Is your problem limiting your activity? Do you go more than 3 times a day? Have you had accidents? Do you mentally make a note of all bathrooms no matter where you are and do you even make note of large trees you can go behind if notheing else is available ?
If your answer is yes, PM me and I can tell you what I have been struggling with and what treatments I have tried. If what I am trying right now doesn't work I will be going to the Mayo Clinic for a camera test.
If your answer is no, hopefully FODMAPS will find your trigger or the tests will identify the problem. There is also a type of cholesterol treatment called cholestyramine which binds the stomach bile in your gut and keeps cholesterol low and stops diahrea.
Lastly, what happens if you take Imodium every day? |

| Gall bladder issues... not that I know of!
Well when my stomach gets really upset bread used to be always my go to thing to calm it down and recently I've begun eating rice instead and it does a pretty good job soothing it a bit... |

Location: MD | food allergies can come at any time as I'm learning right now, after meals about 30-45 minutes every few days I'll break out in bad hives and vomit/belly cramping and D, start with gluten free diet, then if no change, try no dairy.
Get serious with your doctor, your body is telling you something isn't right. He went to medical school, you didn't so either he needs to help you or you need to find a new doctor. plain and simple. This crap drives me crazy when they don't want to help you. |

Location: The end of the Earth, SE AR | Breads and grains can absorb the stomach bile and slow down the overactive digestive track. For IBS suffers with a fast transit time (food races through your system) something such as a broth and vegetable soup and salad gives you about a 30 second race to the potty by the time you eat your last bite, as compared to a baked potato or grilled chicken sandwhich on whole wheat. The FODMAPS diet to ID a problem food type does have a no grain component to help ID issue foods. |

Location: Great NW | I can not tolerate most milk products or heavy oils. I have found that yogurt is ok. light buttered toast is ok. No milk, cream or dishes that include them - ugh... I can have cheese every now and then.
you will notice a difference in a few days if it is milk. I would try deleting milk products from your diet for minimum 5 days to a week and see if you get any better. If not then I would try to go Gluten free(more restrictive and harder to follow). I feel for you. Get some Good Aloe juice and take that twice a day to help your digestion. |

| Try going on the BRAT diet, bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. If that doesn't clear it up what with some of the other suggestions, go see a gastro. |
