Living on the edge of common sense

Location: Carpenter, WY | Was playing a game and popped over and saw this. Thanks FC.
For those who are interested around Thanksgiving I has some pain in my hip..nothing 4 ibuprofen wouldn't kick. It got worse and worse and went to a chiro and the Urgent care. They sent me to a physical therapist. Did that twice a week for a few weeks and the pain just became almost unbearable. Dan took me to the ER nothing showedup on Cat Scan or Xrays. Finally found a Dr. I didn't have to wait a month to get in (Dan can be very, very persistant) and had a MRI this last Tues. There was abnormality in my lower spine, sacrum, and I am having a bone biopsy tomorrow morning to see if it has infiltrated into the spine. I literally can't walk more than a foot or two and have a cane and walker I count on and am living on hydrocodone. It is just killing me not being able to go out to the barn. Dan has been wonderful and so helpful and I've got to say that I'm a little scared for tomorrow's procedure.

| Ok Tee I know you're scared right now and I'm glad you asked for prayers because we're gonna band together and agree for you for healing and peace and the sweet rest you will need in the coming days. When fear comes upon you fight it by reminding yourself what God's Word says and that He will never leave you and we're all here too and you're not alone! |

This is a crappy journey but one I know you are strong enough to go through. Please reach out to those of us who have been or are going through this crap. In the next several days you will get hammered with information. Give yourself permission to absorb it and guestion it.
You are absolutely included in my Prayers, as is Dan.

You are so right Lobo....I was just thinking of you this morning.
Meg, you guys are scared right now, I know. Just breath and get that PET scan and get a really good oncologist. They will help you determine the best path. The road will be a little rocky but when you whip cancer's butt you won't even remember it. |

Location: Carpenter, WY | Morning everyone. Thought I would let you know how much I truly appreciate all your prayers and well wishes. Linda, believe it or not I've thought of Gene and he is quite a inspiration along with Lobo and SHRanch and all the others who have gone through this. Right now I just wish I would quit hurting. They changed the pain meds yesterday and it's better but still very nagging. The 1000 hot knife in the butt pain is gone as well as the lower back though, so that's good. My whole right leg is just numb and the calf of that leg just throbs. My toes and foot have been asleep for a long time and I just kind of drag that leg around as it has absolutely no strength in it at all. I did have a mental meltdown last night when I couldn't lift that leg high enough to fall into bed and had to ask Dan for help. He is taking on his domestic duties pretty good and makes a mean cup of coffee in the morning and learned how to use the washer and dryer too. I have a Dr appt tomorrow at 12:30 and the PET scan Monday at 9:30. We've got mares that will begin to foal the first part of APril. though seriously about selling them, but I think it would take away alot of the purpose I feel like I need right now. We have a friend who has his eye on the Jackie Bee/Slim baby when it gets here and he's offered to park his trailer and help with the foaling so might do some trading out. I guess it is what it is and we'll just deal with it as it comes along. Thanks soooooooo very, very much for thinking of me and keep the prayers comming.
On kind of a funny note Dan brought my 84 yr old cyclone of a mother out last week to clean the house. It's a mess...Well within just 5 minutes of turning on the vaccum she sucked up the bedskirt on the bed and broke the vaccum belt. Had them get the belt off of my spare vaccum and she sucked up a rug and broke that belt...It was kind of funny. Dan is in town this morning running errands and going to the vaccum belt store :)

Your mom sounds like a hoot! Don't sell off mares until you've really thought it through. I'd hate it if you kicked yourself later for it. If people are offering to help foal our or anything for that matter even if its breaking belts! Take them up on it. People want to help in times like this. You're going to be ok Meg. You just got to get mean and mean it.
Location: Arkansas | Good to hear from you.
Mom's heart was in the right place...even if she did suck up the bed skirt and rug.
It's ok to have a melt down here and now. Just put a time limit on how long you squall. Tear's never cured any thing, besides you scare the dog.
Tell those doctor's to get this show on the road. You've got thing's to do and places to see. No time to dilly dally.
Let that fella come down and help foal out your mares...but don't do any thing rash about selling them. You'll be sorry later and want to kill somebody!
How about that family of many kids, could they not come down every week or so and help keep the house from going to pot? Call in all your marker's...you've certainly helped many.
When you go for the ct/Pet scan..go naked! That machine doesn't like anything metal. The first one I had, I came out with my jeans down around my knees and bra in my purse! Those underwires hold up a multitude of sins!
Keep us informed about the doctors plans for you. If you don't like them, don't be shy about asking for a second or third opinion. |

If Dan and your Mom can keep the house in one piece your on a roll.
Don't make any major decisions on horses or anything else right now. Focus on your health first, the rest will come. And you both need those horses to release the stress that comes with the big C.
Being sick sucks! Specially when you are used to being the care taker for everyone around you. Just take a breath and be a patient for a bit. CSU Vet School is doing a cancer study. Makes me feel a LOT better. You know they do things right and care.
Glad they are making progress with the pain. Hopefully they can keep adjusting and get ahead of it.
You and Dan are in my daily prayers.

She and Dan are really scared right now. Meg, we lift you and Dan HIGH in prayer! YOU ARE COVERED!
She asked that I let you all know; she covets your prayers! |

Location: In a happy place | I am laughing so hard I am crying about your mother and the vaccum. As I am sure you remember my mother is 92 and has liver cancer but she has not slowed down a bit and I go behind her covering up her "helping" me. Meg please try to hang in there. It is okay to cry. I have dried tears on my main computer on my desk from a year ago. No matter what anybody may say there comes times when you just need to cry. After the tears quit flowing that was when I could feel the "fight" come back. I hope it works the same for you. As the days upcoming will help you see the "face" of cancer has changed a lot. There are so many more things the doctors can do now days. Sometimes they may not be very pleasant but I have had a year of seeing how it has worked for me and many many other people I have met. I know how scary this time can be but a positive attitude will take you so far. Try to keep your horses for now I just feel like they will carry you through your bad days.....like angels with wings. Will everything be the same for the horses in the days to come like they were last year? No. But they will be okay and you and Dan deserve to have them right now. I have been so lost without a horse, I feel like I am going crazy. I have found one advertised on here that I am trying to figure out if I can get the money together before I call the lady. I just think that those of us that were born part horse need our buddies in troubled times. Remember there will be funny times through this like your mother story. I have one to tell you when you are ready about me having a chemo treatment, leaving Houston and my sister stops at the dog pound in Conroe on the way home. Have you ever seen a male Dachsund breed a cur female dog 20 times taller than him. I am still laughing. My sister just looked at me and said well finally I knew some time during this chemo I would see you laugh. I will tell you the whole story later. Remember you are loved very much by many and you have so many praying for you. I continue to pray for you every day. |

Lobo said everything I was going to say, lol. Just wear sweat pants and top to PET scan and you'll be fine.
Keep your mother around for the laughs, that is the best medecine. Once you let people in on your dirty little secret you will not be surprised at the ones that come forward and offer to help...let them. Whether it be bringing meals or helping clean house or foaling out mares because all your concentration needs to be on getting well and keeping a positive attitude. Keep those mares and foals close to the house so you can see them often, it will lift your spirits.
Love you girl!! Hang Tuff!!!!! |

| Good luck to you. I just started chemo/radiation therapy yesterday for rectal cancer. And let me tell you, not being able to ride is a real downer. Watching everyone else and having to stand by is disheartening. But I go out to the barn and brush and talk to all of my pones and I just had a new little filly the other day, so I'm lavishing attention on her. Fear is a realistic emotion, but you can do anything and you will come through on the other side. Maybe not unscathed, but wiser and stronger for the experience. Good vibes headed your way! |

I'll be thinking of you also, plase keep us informed of your progress. This board was a world of support to me as I went through my treatments for Breast Cancer over the last 3 years. Let us lift you up when you're down or just be the shoulder you need to cry on when you don't want anybody else to see. |

Ahd I echo this!
I had 8 Chemo treatment's for colon cancer. By last June I decieded if the cancer didn't kill me, the chemo would! I'd had a scan every 3 months and they still not found any more cancer cells. So, I was able to stop the chemo. But still have the effect's of the drugs...which they tell me will go away, maybe! Oh joy. Hang tuff...it will get better! |

Location: Carpenter, WY | Thanks SG Long day, but a good day. Have a plan of action now and new pain meds. They also found 2 blood clots in my legs that they thing were contributing to the pain in that leg. PET scan Monday at 10 and then back to the Cancer center and they will tat me. Radiation every day for 3 weeks and then Chemo will start next Friday. I really like the Dr. and his staff. I guess Cigna is going through some computer upgrades and that is the reason for some of the delay in the approvals. They couldn't get Ins to approve the Percocet which neither the pharmacist or the Dr. could understand and I'll be dog gone if the Dr. gave me 40 dollars cash to cover the cost.
Keep the prayers comming, but I feel very good about the day and it is wonderful not to hurt this evening :)

I appeal claims full time for a living for a good sized medical group and have done it for quite a few years at a corporate level, not just a billing level. Ditto for me. This is such an overwhelming time for her and sometimes there just isn't enough left in your body to share with everyone. I just want her to know how much she is loved and when she can pull herself up by her bootstraps we will be waiting to hear from her.

I think we must realize that, with any diagnosis of cancer, a person's world is turned upside down, shook around and thrown into the hands of others, leaving them stunned for period of time. I am certain that she knows that many are praying for her, her family and her doctor's healing hands.....

Location: Bastrop, Texas | Being told "you have cancer" is the beginning of a process where a person has to go through a lot of stages that are remarkably consistent. It's a natural process that a person needs to go through, in my opinion. I can tell you this both from my personal experience of being told "You have leukemia", as well as being the messenger, hundreds, if not thousands of times. The first thing is shock and even denial. You just want to go off and process all this stuff. You want to run to be with that one person who means most to you and look to them for comfort and consolation. Then reality hits hard and that is usually accompanied by anger (Why me?). You talk to God and beg for a miracle. You bargain with Him and you promise to do this or that, if He will give you that cure or miracle. At this point, you begin to feel real sadness and mourning because the reality has sunk in. Acceptance and a mindset to get going with whatever needs to be done is the final stage. This is where you roll up your sleeves and go to work. Those of us who have been through this will identify with what Meg is going through. We all process things and cope a little differently, but these things do take place. If you are a person of faith, you begin to find serenity and real peace at some point. It's hard to say what Meg is going through at this point, but I am sure she is fighting and working her way through the process. In time, she will share with us. Right now what we are doing won't go unnoticed, and those prayers will be heard. The outpouring of love and support is enormous and very powerful! |

Location: Carpenter, WY | It's funny Scott that the first time I get on BHW I read your post.
To fill in..I had a PET scan on Monday..head to toe and 50 minutes in that tube. I have 3 spots on my back and a mass in the right breast. I started radiation on the back on Tues and will go everyday for 3 weeks. They are trying to relieve some of the pain I have in my right leg and get me mobile again. I have a biopsy scheduled tomorrow on the breast and then a consult with the chemo Dr on Fri and more radiation. I'm at the overwhelmed stage right now but I can feel God's arms around me and know that I'm in good hands.
Please keep the prayers comming as I feel like I need all I can get

Couldn't agree more. Meg you have my hugs and prayers.
My father found out he had cancer on his lower back last spring. They surgically removed the tumors and gave him some radiation. He got a clean bill of health a few months later. Hearing he had cancer he said was harder then hearing he could never walk again. You just have to keep faith near you and fight. |

I understand all too well how over whelming cancer is. I Promise it gets easier. In the beginning there is so much information to absorb and schedules and meds, and, and, and....... But you Will get into a routine and although it is not normal it is do able. I got SO sick of hearing about losing my hair. Like that was the biggest issue. So now I am sporting some fine bandanas that I made. Today was pink and teal weanie dogs. If you decide to go that route call and I will hook you up with some cool horse or dog prints. Personally I think wigs are over rated and we should look at bald women with respect and admiration. We are the fighters!!

The thought of a Wig just weirded me out, lol. I just wore silk scarves at first, then ball caps and when I finally got just a little bit of hair on my head I stopped wearing anything. Instead of Tough Enough to wear pink they should have shirts that say Tough Enough to Go Bald!!
That said, Meg's chemo may not cause her to loose her hair, not all chemo med's do. |

| To all the cancer warriors out there,
I don't know of anything that has kicked my butt so badly, but as I saw someone post earlier, there is a routine and there is an end in sight. I will not lose my hair as this protocol/medications don't do that but I have every other side effect and it is not fun. Watching everyone else continue to ride/haul/have fun is a killer too, but to all of us brave hearts.........we will survive and be stronger. As my husband just told me this morning, the Lord is teaching me to be a patient and better person. I'm going to hope that I learn and grow from this experience. Soldier on my friends! |

Just know I am here so pm me if/and when you feel like it. As far as the wigs....some hate them some don't. I for one cannot go out in public without one. I'm sure all of these ladies are much prettier than I am so they look good without one. I have wigs that haven't been worn even one time so if you would like me to send one, if you need it I will be happy to mail it to you. My doctor showed no mercy and gave me the largest doses of chemo possible so my hair is not growing back as fast as most so I am still wearing wigs and will be happy to share with anyone. |

I almost sent you a PM but thought maybe sharing my treatment would help you not feel so alone and maybe help somebody else who is lurking.
My chemo kicked me hard, as I was on the couch in a fetal position for the whole treatment, 8 treatments every two weeks. Every symptom that they said "might" or "could" happen, well it happened with me.
The purpose of this ramble is to let you know that you can and will get through it and when it's all said and done it will honestly just seem like a bad memory and an old bump in the road. It's the end result your after so just keep fighting through it. (And I had the Red Devil for BC and I sure enough lost my hair, ball caps and wild rags, silk scarves etc were my friend) |

(And I had the Red Devil for BC and I sure enough lost my hair, ball caps and wild rags, silk scarves etc were my friend)
You are both heroes along with all our friends who have been battling cancer.
I agree.... Thank you for sharing! The information shared CAN AND WILL Help someone |
