 Can You Hear Me Now?
Location: When you hit the middle of nowhere .. Keep driving | It's not a person or horse but actually a cat. My brothers to be exact. I took him to the vet this morning because he was acting really weird. They don't know what it is yet and he's still there. He's very lethargic and has a really high temp; but his bloodwork, stool sample and an xray (thought of a blockage in his intestine) all came back ok. My brother is crushed, this little guy helped him stay sane while he was recovering from his car accident causing him to be bed ridden last fall; and then recovering from heavy depression and withdrawals caused from the drugs they gave him. I just hope Bridges or Mr.B as we call him pulls through.

They said his bladder looked good in the X-rays and he gets his own litter and he has no problems going it's never changed(we separate him when we aren't home so the big guys don't beat him up). I have one that gets crystals so we monitor their litter a lot. They still think it's a blockage but maybe something soft like string or a feather, and gave him iv fluids, and some antibiotics. They are also running a dye through his intestine and staggering X-rays to see if it' helps them see something. Right now they are trying to bring that temperature down. He's miserable and they called to say they wanted to sedate him because they can't work on him. Since it's the weekend if they can't find anything by tomorrow (only open until noon) we are going to take him home and keep an eye on him and bring him back Monday. I told them I would take him to emergency if something happens but no one will be there most of the time saturday night and Sunday to watch him; and I think he would be more comfortable resting here.
The blockage thing seems most likely to me because he was fine in the am and completely weird in the pm (last night). But he hasn't really vomited as much only one time.

The dye is a good idea! Right, if he swallowed something like fabric or feather, it'll be hard to see on X-rays because it should match the density of soft tissue. coins light up really well :/.
When should they get the news on the new radiographs?? Prayers for your brother's cat. I love my kitties too :). I'm a first year vet student and my "roommates" are a cat and two rats. |
