We are getting ready for another cold snap...Thursday it is supposed to be -4 for a high -14 for a low.  This will put us somewhere around 50 days below zero for the season.  I am cold!  I promise to be a good girl and clean up after myself.

I agree Chuckie.  I'm so tired of this.  The entire 7 day outlook is so freaking cold!  I was going to move out to my aunts in the western part of SD for a couple weeks with a load of horses I'm trying to keep rode because its always nice and warm in the Hills area but they are even cold.    I'm so tired......so very very tired of the cold and ice.

Every year I wonder what the heck (only I don't say heck) were the settlers thinking when they stopped here.  It's pretty where I live but this cold weather is kicking my behind!!  Where is this global warming I've heard people speak of?

Having lived my whole life in Central to East Texas, I cannot imagine living up north.  I watch the tv coverage and wonder how people can live thru that.  I have been there during the summer and I know how nice it is and I know that people think that our summers are unbearable, but we have air conditioning and can ride at night or early mornings.  All I can say is that I am glad my ancesters stopped when they got to Texas.

I'm trying to figure out how to get my horses rode for Bonus race finals.  Right now the area I ride, and for that matter all other areas, is a nothing but a huge ice skating rink.   Thank gosh it's still over a month away!

Were looking at -10 here. That's not including the 3 feet of snow that I have to walk through to my barn. This winter has been tough tough tough. I'm not even sure I remember how to ride its been so long.

The snow has pretty much missed us this year.  My brother left here last week to deliver horses to Wisconsin.  Said he got 100 miles east to Hutchinson and he found the beginnings of winter.  It got worse the further east he drove.  I'll gladly skip the snow if we just get some spring rains.

Crazy when -7 seems good.  I got home from work the other night and took my dogs out.  It was about 9:30 at night and about -6 out.  The wind wasn't blowing so I went outside just on the front porch and stood while the dogs did their business and thought it was kind of nice out.  What kind of sick, twisted attitude is that when you start to think -6 with no wind is "nice"....

I went to pick up my trailer in Verndale and I was surprised how much less snow they had. They still have a lot but not as much.

Rain would be wonderful! A nice green pasture is all I see when it rains and green is good!

Hubby constantly questions my sanity. This winter bites the big one, but I can't take the heat and humidity AND $14 a bale for hay!

SO winter it is.......sigh......

I was planning on riding in our unplowed bean fields, BUT...

Last week on Tues-Thurs it got up to 50+ degrees.  The foot of snow started to melt and then on Thursday it RAINED (Poured!) 2+ inches of rain!!!  So that melted even MORE and Saturday and Sunday didn't make 30 degrees.   EVERYTHING is one big sheet of ice.
Luckily it did shrink just a little bit on Saturday and Sunday because the sun was shining, but as for melt.  I think my boys are on vacation for a week.

I just came in the house to warm up.  It was a whopping 3 above but with no wind it sure didn't feel too bad.  I'm trying to get horses legged up for Lincoln.  I rode my first one a couple hours ago, did 2 miles on him.  Bareback, with his blanket and me in coveralls and a facemask.

We got 4+ inches of snow today and it is supposed to get down to -15 tonight.  Whoever said the -6 and no wind was nice...I have to agree with...when the wind blows (which is like 95% of the time) it is so darned cold, so when you have a wind free day it seems like a heat wave!

I haven't even had to run my heater in a month.  It has been hanging around the 60's during the day, but it is dry as a bone, so that is the trade off.  Hoping for a good monsoon season to save our fannies.

chuckie31 - 2014-02-24 8:37 AM We are getting ready for another cold snap...Thursday it is supposed to be -4 for a high -14 for a low.
I left the Hills for Tx in Nov and I have to say I am soooooo glad I did! I wish I had made this move 20 years ago and will NEVER do another SD winter again!!
A buddy of mine lives in the Granbury area....she told me to come down and at least spend the winter.  My last baby graduates from HS this spring so next winter that might be what I do.  I couldn't move down there though, just for a while in the winter.

You should so do that!! I was really nervous about coming down here for the winter and its something I have always said I was going to do.. After that blizzard in OCT I said NO MORE and was gone by the end of the month.Planning on doing a few months down here to escape the cold then go on back home. Now I don't plan on going back ever. Love this place!
