| I was stunned that such a political white house would back the latest military budget cuts, like 71% reduction in subsidies for commissaries. These commissaries provide discounted groceries to troops and their families. Is their game plan to put our military on food stamps?

Nice concept. But here is reality.
The Internal Revenue Service spent $4.1 million on a lavish conference in 2010 for 2,609 of its employees in Anaheim, California. Expenses included $50,000 for line-dancing and “Star Trek” parody videos, $135,350 for outside speakers, $64,000 in conference “swag” for the employees, plus free meals, cocktails, and hotel suite upgrades. Their budget has continued to increase every year since.

the reality is what voters make it.......at least for now in this country

When I was growing up the only difference was there was no tax on anything bought on base. |

| I did "go to Washington". We elected a congress. (remember, that's how we do it. It's called representative government.) Nearly 150 bills in 2013 alone were passed, and were largely about spending cuts. None were ever brought to the floor of the Senate. |

In fact, I can honestly say that I would not do it now. So much has changed.... |

Stuff like that went out the door a long time ago.... I'm thinking it came to my attention when a Missouri representative voted against the wishes of the of his people about the Panama Canal when he voted to give it away, and he said he had to vote HIS conscious instead of the conscious of the people that put him in office. It was at that point I realized we had lost control of our government. I've not trusted it since. |

They charge a surcharge now and have for a long time at the commissary. BX and Class 6 still no tax, and that can be huge. Washington state where we live charges no tax on food. |

It's absolutely ridiculous how much they make!!! Limit the presidents excursions as well. Calvin Coolidge could teach Obama a thing or two about being frugal and cutting costs!!!! |

agreed...cut at your own peril but the amount of waste in the military is unacceptable......if all the military waste were streamlined, with no budget change, our forces would be stronger, more capable of varied response, and better taken care of whether active or retired.... |

Then reform the funding/budget procedures/protocols but to cut the funding of America's Security is in essence cutting Her Own Throat! |

| In my opinion, ALL the current spending cuts being proposed are petty, political or both. You could eliminate the entire annual budget of the military ($718 billion) and it wouldn't impact the 17 trillion of debt we owe.
Raising taxes isn't the answer either. If you taxed millionaires 100% (what good would that do?) you would gather enough money to fund our country's budget for . . . . about four months.
Interest on our debt alone each year is over $392 billion. (now wait, isn't that half our TOTAL military budget?)
So are we just dumb to keep re electing these guys? Here's a quote for the upcoming 2015 budget. The 2015 budget increases spending by $58 billion, according to USA Today. "Obama's budget will contain $56 billion in increased spending — according to a White House official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details before the budget announcement." But don't worry: it will all be paid for, we're told. Source: USA Today.
Hey. I just googled all this crap. But thank God for the internet. I wouldn't be able to gather this information by watching the news. lol.
