Location: You never know where I will show up......
HotPants - 2014-02-25 5:17 PM If you have a three yr old now where in the training would you expect them to be /clocking thanks!
When are you planning to run it? As a juvenile colt? A 4 year old? A 5 year old? Two of my 3 year olds just have 30 days of riding on them but they know all of their basics. The one I bought is just track broke. I've had her for a month but the weather has been too cold for me to do much with her. I won't start them on the pattern until next fall but I am shooting to run them as 4 or 5 year olds. Depending on how fast they come along.
If you are trotting or slow loping you are fine. I have some that are hardly broke and feel no rush. We have a 4 year old this year, he has been under saddle 8 months and placed at every futurity. Don't rush it.
Remember this futurity thing is a horse by horse basis. I have a 5 y.o. I'm haulin his year. She's perfect on the pattern. I mean PERFECT! But she doesn't go. Every once in a while she'll smoke a pattern and outclock everyone. But that's been the rare occasion. I wanted to go so we're going. Is she the best horse out there, probably not,but I want to go and experience the futurity game so there it is. Just don't jeopardize your horses physical/mental well being trying to prep your horse for he futurities. It's only one year of their lives.
