This is a 5/6 year old gaited mare that I purchased last year as a trail horse. What color would you consider her? Top pic is right now with winter coat and bottom is last spring. I know they are not the best quality but just curious as to what others think! Thank you.

The picture is very small, so it's hard to tell. Does he have a dorsal stripe?

FlyingJT - 2014-02-27 10:56 AM Grey Overa paint.

Agree....that's what I'm thinking....the smaller picture made her seem to look almost like a lighter grullo, but she is definitely grey

Wow!

I don't know what color I'd say she is, but she reminds me soo much of a TWH (dam) X Paint (sire) cross my grandpa bred when I was just getting into horses.   She did the exact color changes and it was so strange!!

Sorry I'm of no help!  I just find her beautiful and she's bringing back childhood memories!!

Chestnut sabino.

Interesting answer, can I ask why? I'm just curious as to what would differentiate between what others are saying and your choice?

Awe, that's awesome! I'm not sure of her exact breeding, I'm assuming TWH and maybe some partial Paso? Just because of how she moves and her structure. But I honestly do not know. I just fell in love with her sweet personality and willingness to please. Her color has just stomped me.

My first thought was more of a red or strawberry roan sabino...

She looks liver chestnut to me in the pic with the sabino markings. I see red/brown, not black or gray. Might just be the pic though. She is standing in the shade. The other pic (with winter hair), she looks red.

She looks like a red (liver chestnut) roan/red rabicano with sabino markings to me, currently. How old is she? Does she get more grey hairs every year? If so, she may also be a grey as pointed out by others.

I agree with strawberry roan or sabino. Her winter pic doesn't look grey, but her summer pic does because she's in a big shadow. A summer pic in the sun would be a better reference.

Well I know she's not related to mine!    Her mom had a terrible disposition (but her full sister was a sweetheart!) and it started wearing off on the filly!  I was only about 10 and my grandpa said it was time for them go down the road!  He was in his 70's and the horse gene skipped my parents so neither of us we going to try and calm her down!

If she's Paso X TWH I bet she is one smooooooth rider!

A gray adult horse is gray. They dont just have gray hairs on top of their base color. The sabino characteristic is the graying OVER the base color, along with some heavier spots of the graying and the gray at the top of the tail.

http://www.horsetesting.com/sabino1.htm

Sabino's are common.
