Boo hoo. | Your friend is going to get on an airplane with a hundred + people who may or may not have who knows what virus and spend several hours with those people yet she is worried about you? Oh my. I'd be much more worried about who was sitting behind me or in front of me on the airplane what was on those flip down trays on the airplane. When I travel I use cleansing wipes to wipe down the tray on the airplane seat and anything and everything else on the airplane I *might* touch as well as watch out when sitting in or touching those chairs in the waiting area in the airport. Eeeeewwwww. ICKY. I think she is worrying way too much about you.... For all she knows, Typhoid Mary could be on that airplane flight with you. (By the way, I am very surprised she is flying at 34 weeks.)

With the norovirus, I would like to see the research her doctor is referring to, as a nurse one must only be 48 hours symptom free before returning to work |

Location: Memphis, TN | Heck tell her not to go if she's that worried about germs. Sounds to me like she needs to lock herself in a room with a can of Lysol and bottle of hand sanitizer for the next 4-5 weeks. I'm sure it's mostly stemming from hormones This far into it she's mentally and emotionally preparing to be a protective momma. Just bring her back down to reality with the risk she is taking in general traveling. Also the big reason doctors consider stomach bugs dangerous is the dehydration from getting sick. It's not necessarily the bug itself from what I understand. |

I agree her dr.also Didn't explain how the virus is shed she just said how badly it's shed. Her husband just called me saying she's just as upset as me and he hates us fighting he said she wants me to try and get insurance which they won't give me when my flights on Monday. |

You have four more days to make up your mind....If you are not showing any symptoms on Monday, I would hop on that flight. If you have symptoms by then you won't WANT to get on the flight. She has just as much chance of catching something from the hundreds of OTHER people she will be around. I think she is being a little selfish. |

If it was the norovirus, from puking and diarrhea, the spores can grave up to 3 feet away, you may have caught it that way.
Also the best way to prevent the spread is hand washing with normal soap for at least 30 seconds then alcohol sanitizer. |

Oh yeah, mama is always on the front lines when kid puke is involved. LOL. The bad part was I took my daughter to the dr for a UTI and she started puking in the waiting room. She had to get a shot in the butt since she obviously wasn't going to keep meds down and we exposed a bunch of poor innocents to her cooties. |

| hmmmmm I think you should text your friend and tell her you're doing her a big favor and watching out for her safety by cancelling her tickets... send her an article about how dangerous germs float around in the ventilation systems in the jets...then go enjoy yourself and see if you can get another friend to go. Lots of times tickets aren't refundable, but the cost of them (minus some charges) can be credited toward another flight within a year.
well I guess I'm being a little brat huh? ha ha.

| I am sorry that your friend is doing this to you. I am guessing this is her first, and I thought doctors and air travel frown upon women travelling in their last trimester.
Also the norovirus will not cause harm to the fetus, but measles, and chicken pox can cause fetal demise, and I know we have had 2 measles outbreaks already this year.
I think your friend just has pregnancy brain.
I still think you should go, just don't sit beside her, and you have fun on your trip. |

It's a done deal that I'm not going. I told her I am just sick of fighting and want to move past this. Told her she should appreciate me doing this she then said she did but I'm not sure how sincere that was I'm just realizing she's very selfish yet I love her to pieces we are normally inseparable friends |

Location: Oklahoma | That is true. You can be non symptomatic with Norovirus and "shed" the virus unknowingly and get others sick.
Even those that have been sick and appear to be over the virus, can shed the virus for 2 weeks after they feel well.
It only takes about 18 virus particles to become ill with Norovirus.
If you are well on Monday, you should go. Continue to practice your good hygiene and enjoy your trip.

The virus can stay in your stool for 2 weeks or more after you feel better. You are most contagious •when you are sick with norovirus illness, and •during the first 3 days after you recover from norovirus illness. I think you are reading MUCH more into the information by the CDC...........the virus can be shed through YOUR STOOL up to 2 weeks....If a person practices good hygiene, they would NOT spread it that long......See the link above.......

I would agree with the above.
Sorry you canceled your ticket. If it had been me I wouldn't have done it and would have just booked myself into a hotel for the trip.
I fly a few times a year and get sick every single time with a nasty sinus infection. I haven't quite figured out how to avoid it. I would love to be able to fly and wear a surgical mask to try to keep from getting sick but I'm afraid it would freak out the other people.
Your friend is taking a huge chance just getting on the plane, there is no telling what health issues the other passengers are dealing with. |
