I originally bought this saddle to fit a gelding I used to own, but sold him because he was a dud for a barrel horse. Fast forward to now, I bought my mare off the track just over a year ago and I'm concerned that my beloved Triple Creek saddle is too narrow for her even when she is out of shape. Below is a link to the pictures in my photobucket album. I have pictures of her without the saddle, with the saddle/no pad (cinched up and just sitting on her), and with the saddle and pad (cinched up and not cinched up), as well as pictures of her when she is in shape. The pad is a 3/4" Impact Gel.

I apologize that they aren't the best pictures. Its so hard to keep her standing square and keeping her head straight by myself lol. I can get more pictures on Monday when I go back out to the barn.

You could try a bit thinner pad. I think the thickness of that pad is not helping.

Thats what I was thinking. I plan on buying a new 5 Star within the next few months. She isn't being worked right now anyways because of how cold it is here in MI.

That looks like a 1 inch thick pad, go with a half inch thick. I use a Saddleright and it works well on higher withered horses.

I agree the saddle looks tight, and I dont like the way the skirt pecks up in the back it should be flat.

Even without the pad, it looks too tight right under the front cochos. Try running your flat hand underneath right there at the front and all the way thru the length of the saddle. Keep your hands up under that tree and you will feel what your horse is feeling.

agree

the bar angle looks way narrower than the angles of the horse's back.

Too narrow. Also need a flatter bar angle.

Thanks everyone! I'm so sad that this saddle doesn't fit, but looks like I might have to sell it. Can't start my mare on the pattern with a saddle that is making her uncomfortable.

What is a good saddle brand that offer WIDE trees? I wish I could afford a Caldwell, but that isn't an option. Only looking to spend what I can get out of this saddle.

I would say that you don't need anything bigger than a 6 1/2-6 3/4" gullet with flatter bars. Something like a lazy l coats, usually find used for around $1,200-$1,300, cactus CJ, etc
