I am watching my older mare slow down and get up really slow.  I am really worried I will wait too long or do it too soon.  Getting really spooky and harder for her to see too.  It's so hard to even think of it, but I don NOT want to find her suffering either.

How old is she? Can she still eat good? Does she move around good when she's up?

I have an old 35+ year old appy.  I asked my vet "the question" and she said, think of your horse and the three qualities that define them.  She said when the horse no longer has those qualities, then it's usually time.  That makes sense to me.  Mine moves around great, eats great and seems happy.  She's given me a few scares, but she is one tough girl
