OK so who on here is going ???? Who is meeting me there? If you are running Are you in Futurity? Slot Race? Are you pole Bending?? Is the poles a 2 run and short go?

Most importantly WHO is going to win the pony race??? I have to tell you each year they have impressed me more and more the way its run. I saw this year its a full video arcade and movies each night to entertain the kids (I guess the kids that don't ride or are not riding that night)

They think of everything

Does Kristi herself run in the event?

Watching the American this weekend and then I'm just heading to Diamonds & Dirt. I am going to be a happy camper for the month of March with all this racing

I'll be there! Only running the open Saturday and Sunday, was too broke to enter the derby :(

I live about 15 minutes from the arena so I'm super excited!

I went last year and was really disappointed in how they treated some of us open riders....

If your flyer says 9am start then start at 9am.  For the cost of the entry fees and what I had to pay for fuel/food etc it wasn't worth it.  There were a 2 other incidents that ticked me off.    I won't be attending again.

I'm impressed at how much this has done for barrel racing. Hats off to the Schillers! I'd love to give it a try someday. Maybe next year.

I'll be there to watch a few different times.

I did notice some schedule changes this year that I think will make it better from an entertainment perspective, and even for competitors.

If you want a more Mexican type (Instead of TexMex) and not a chain...Los Mocajetes at Texas and Villa Maria in Bryan is tasty.

Casa Rodriguez in Bryan has a good breakfast.  I usually get the migas or pancakes.

If I know what kind of food you're looking for, I can give suggestions!!!

My 11 yo DD and I are running twice each on Sunday.  We are on Spring Break in Colorado right now so we won't be able to go hang out any until then.  Depending what time we get home Saturday I would surely like to go watch some that day.  We have been to the first two and look forward to seeing the latest additions.  I will say the holding pen crew was a little grouchy last year but I would be too if I had to deal with 'us' all week.  :)  It's fun, unique and we've really enjoyed it.

As far as eating, you can find whatever you want.  If you have some particular craving, I could help you out.

I am up Saturday!! I got to visit last year when I was getting my pre vet school rabies shots. I walked around the shopping venue and told mom we HAD to enter next year. Well, we did!!

I'm 24 and 76 on Saturday, and my sister is 64. It'll be my fourth run on my new horse so it'll be pretty exciting :) :)

Good luck Rodeomom3!!

Mention what that race is doing for the barrel racing industry as a whole. It's my opinion your the one missing out on a race that's going to get better every year.

Very well said, I agree. And the Schiller's have done tremendous things for our industry, D&D is a fabulous event, the ground is great, the atmosphere the staff (etc) its is a wonderful event, and I only expect it to get bigger and better every year !!!

Safe travels and good luck to everyone competing, and thank you for the Schiller's for putting this event on again.

Whenever you have something this big and this successful you are still going to have an occasional negative experience.  This is the only time I have ever read anything negative about the D&D.  I don't think there are many disgruntled former competitors.  There's no avoiding it.

Does anyone know if the arcades and movies are open to all kids or just the contestants'children?

And is there barrel racing all day or any ideas how long they will be running on Saturday? The events page says futurity at 9 but I was hoping to catch some of.the 5d too.

I went last year and was paid up in the futurity. After my exhibition I realized my colt was still hurting so ended up drawing out! I have to say the staff was extremely helpful and nice even tho I'm not a big name! Yes they were extremely busy. Thanks to the Schillers for putting on a great event! And I'm running Saturday so I can see if the latest attempt by my many vets has worked!

its free toe everyone - just another perk of a schiller ranch production

as for the hater --- God Bless them. They obviously have NO IDEA what it takes to put on a production of this size and magnitude. Leave it to a narrow minded person to pick it apart.

The BFA was an hour and a half getting started one day this past year. Things happen.

this barrel race is off the charts by far the best production out there

Ugg Lauren, we were terrible. Thought we were really running but just high loping. He was so wired in the back and on the muscle I thought he was going to really take off.  Had fun, race ran fast and smooth, lots of vendors, spent a ton of $$ shopping .  Did better on my other 2 horses.  Still a lot to learn but enjoying the ride :).

I wish I could attend. The Schillers really seem like a class act. There's always going to be some kinks the first few times such a big event is being put on. I think its awesome they are going to the time, effort, and investment to do this. If it was about making money there are a lot better ways to do it.

I did not go last year but it is my understanding they made some changes this year.  It is unbelievable the amount of staff and coordination this event requires.  From checking in every single horse and coggins, the alleyway help, the person monitoring the forward momentum in the alley, getting stalls assigned, to getting vendors checked in. They had staff for everything you can think of.   Add to that organizing and manning all the extra events, cook offs, movies for kids, special entertainment, it is quite an undertaking and those are just the tip of the iceberg.   It is a fabulous event that draws runners from all over the country.  Kuddos to the Schillings, I will be back next year.

D&D has been great so far but whats up with the announcer....his mike is way high...and during the slot race he'd start yelling, whistling, saying whoa etc.. when people are trying to run their colts....its hard enough with all the distractions for a colt to focus and run in a race like that but the announcer was a little much... I mean I get trying to get the audience hyped up but thats for before a run and when they are running home...making that much noise and those kind of noises like whistling or yellin whoa during a run over a loud speaker is not really fair...it wasn't all the time but it was a lot...

They unsaddled him and he did walk out of the arena. Not sure beyond that.

Do we know if they are okay with putting panels up on your trailer? I'm only there for a day but I just want my 2 to be happy and not have to stand tied while I'm out shopping

Did you notice the last horse Pozzi ran had a different rider listed.  It's the horse that is paid into this deal, they don't care who the rider is, so there is a lot of Jockey changes.

What she is saying is that you have to enter months in advance. They might not know who the jockey is when they enter. The listing on the webcam site is the predraw meaning it is what is sent in at the time of entry. Not necessarily the final riders and such when they get to the gate.

Lauren's horses worked good.  Her and Bunny, her new mare were a 16.7, a few extra steps by the first and only their 4th run together.  First barrel is quick, my gelding usually has a perfect first and he did the same thing.  Her gelding Tank had a 7 too, very pretty run but didn't fire as hard as he usually does, he was a little nervous in a new pen.  Lauren is a heck of a hand and made it look easy, 2 smooth pretty runs.  Her little sister had a pretty run too on her mare, ran a 16.8.

Thanks for checking up on me!!

My new horse Bunny can really leave the alley hard and go by the first if you let her. With the forward motion rule in the alley I didn't want to score her in the alley like I have been, so we left a little strong.

Tank for some reason thought the alley was a dark hole, LOL, so he jumped in from the holding pen. He made a really pretty pattern but he had never been to Bryan before so he was a little cautious. I should have entered him two days because he fires harder the more runs he makes in a pen.

My sister was a ball of nerves so she was pretty conservative with her runs! Here are our pictures!

rodeomom3 - 2014-03-16 9:23 AM Next year Lauren will will all enter twice. I was thinking of just staying overnight Saturday and watching the finals of the futurites and derbies.
yep! Enter Sat and Sun and watch the finals! Sounds good to me! Shoot next year I MIGHT have a futurity entry. MIGHT. lots of big IFs but Peri may be ready.
It is going to be fun!!!!!   I hope Peri is ready, it is expensive but how wonderful to have a hughe added $$ futurity that is close to home, can't pass that up.

Yep I'm really going to have to get her going over the summer. She's loping a decent set right now which I'm thrilled with since I can barely ride her with school… once I get horses up there with me it's game on!

Southtxponygirl - 2014-03-16 12:27 AM Does anybody know how Lauren {Casualdust 07} did on her runs today?

Nice pictures, glad that you guys had nice runs. Sounds like Rodeomom and you had a good time.  I sure do miss the barrel racing days, hopefully things will get back to normal and I can keep a sound horse and start the fun all over again.   Hope you guys got a check

Easily the best barrel race I have ever been too. And i came home with a wonderful check. If my horse woulda stuck his nose out a little further we coulda got the 3D saddle! Oh well, no complaining for me.

got home a few hours ago. diamonds and dirt is by far the very best barrel race going..... oh my gosh, there was something for everyone there/ the kids just loved all the things to do. the hat sale was cool, the pony race was cool. the k9 dogs everywhere was cool, the secretary Ross is right on the job and very friendly and returns calls or answers her phone.. great vendors. I would of liked the derby to have two runs, that is the only suggestion I would like to change... it was very organized and well run. we did not win a dime but had a great time...I was a little embarrassed about my run in the derby, but had two famous people tell me how nice my mare was... yep, I think we should have a diamonds and dirt twice a year....

Did any one see the poles? who won and how many entered?

Would love to  attend some year,
its very far a way from here.
was a bit putt off by the advirtisement picture of a girl with lifting her leg. If you have time to lift your leg just move the horse over,  J.M.O. (if this is supposed to be some of the best riders)

JMO

Well it is a barrel "RACE" not barrel "equitation" LOL

Quick question for you horsingaround--what's going to save more time, lifting her leg and not changing her horse's path OR moving her over and adding more steps to the turn? Winners find a way to win.

Well,

It's not blank.. when I put my cursor over the page I can highlight the fields, but it's like everything was typed with an invisible font or color.  I can see the format, but not make anything out of it... if that makes any sense at all!

I've been meaning to go every year!! Even entered last year and shattered my arm at the end of january. They were awesome at refunding my money and lord knows they didn't have to. Wanted so bad to go this year but didn't have the horsepower to compete against those girls. Next year!!! lol

That picture happens to be one of the best riders in the country and she has had an amazing year (check out the BFA results). Her name is Jolene Montgomery and I was there to see that run and it won her almost $12,000 in the FT Smith Derby Finals. It was an awesome run and trust me, Jolene was so close to that barrel, lifting her leg was the only option. That horse turns tight and fast. I say kudos to her for not falling off, I would have ate dirt if I would have attempted that, LOL!
