My brother-in-law had this surgery over a week ago. They also repaired a small tear of some type on the back of his knee. He is still in incredible pain. He had the surgery on Friday, then Saturday night my sister had to call 9-1-1 because he was hurting so bad. They did an xray and sonagram and thought everything looked ok. On Tuesday he went back to the surgeon that did his surgery and they just gave him stronger pain meds. Still not doing well but going back to doctor again next Tuesday. Does this sound normal?

No it is not normal to have that much pain. I had arthroscopic knee surgery. I injured my knee in Jan (years ago) and they finally did surgery in May. I was in physical therapy from Jan to May and it was gettting worse. Once they did the surgery they found where I did have a fracture under the knee cap that was not seen on the the original MRI, as well as torn ligaments. Surgery was in AM and I was discharged and sent directly to sports medicine clinic for therapy the same afternoon. Granted all it consisted of was the electrical mucscle contractions and icing it. But I never needed the pain meds like you have described. Somethings not right.

Yes and no. I've had 2 scopes done plus an MPFL replacement. My last surgery was Monday and the first two days (plus Monday) were absolute living hell. Like percocets weren't even killing the pain. But it did get better after that. But for him to be in that much pain so long after is surprising. My MPFL, I was taking oxycodone regularly for 2 weeks. Going to PT was an act of God, seriously. It really depends what type of surgery it was and if it was an ACL, MCL, PCL, etc. etc.

I hope that when he goes back on Tuesday that he can get some answers. He said that it go so bad that if had had a gun, it would have been over. This man is not a wuss. He needs some answers and relief.

I just had arthroscopic surgery on my hip last week and am not near that kind of pain! Although the nurses did tell me that they wouldn't give me any pain meds In the days leading up to my surgery to relieve the pain because it would have been hard to manage my pain after the surgery with meds. so maybe if he was on pain meds before the surgery then his body is not reacting to the meds the way they are suppose to
