So, I just cannot decide what to feed my horses.

I am bringing home my first horse (sold him after I broke him when he was 4 and saw him on CL and opted to buy him back).

When I had him then I fed alfalfa and Triple Crown complete. He is a firewater flit grandson and dash for cash as well and he just is NOT a big horse lol. He is 14.3 and not very wide, but on Triple Crown I feel he started looking like the QH he is instead lol.

He is also super calm even on the sugary grains.

Then my mare... double king fritz bred, reactive, somewhat hot. I did have her on alfalfa and renew gold, but she was practically cracked out lol.
Her trainer has her on grass hay and equine pride and says she is less reactive, more calm and a lot easier to train.

So my dilemma is... I really don't know too much about feeds.

I do work with a former horse vet and asked about alfalfa and how people say it makes horses founder (I've never experienced it and my family has always fed alfalfa), and he disagreed and said a horse can founder on anything.

However, alfalfa, grass hay, no matter what you feed you do need to add something to make it a complete feeding regime.

So, I can't have my mare on Triple Crown cause I guarantee it will make her hot, but my gelding always had amazing results.

What do you prefer and why?
Grass hay or alfalfa

Any experience with Equine Pride? I did some research and it seems complete with minerals and Phosphorous and Calcium etc.

Should I just have the two horses on separate grains? Either way I have to buy a bag of something per horse and they are close in price I believe.

Also has anyone ever heard of Moringa? The craze here is the F1 Noni berry, but someone presented Moringa to me as well and her horse is kicking some major butt!

I was planning on adding F1 into the feeding game as well, but debating the two supplements.

I really hate having all these choices :/

If your horses don't have Pssm then alfalfa won't cause founder. Alfalfa is high in sugar, it can also be high in protein which can cause kidney stones. Alfalfa does have its pros as it is high in calcium, and can act like a buffering agent for the stomach.

I would suggest testing your hay and speaking with a equine nutritionist.

My horses get 25 percent alfalfa 10 Timothy, and the rest orchard grass, that is what we plant for our horses, never had any problems. During the winter we also feed green feed as well

What about Purina Strategy Healthy Edge? It's super low in sugar but had a good fat content? I have a dash for cash gelding who gets not just looking at a bag of sweet feed. Put him on Purina Strategy Healhy Edge and he is doing great on it.

Triple crown senior !! High fat , very low NSC at 11.7% good protein .. I have my super hot mare on it & she does great. Keeps her calm & really filled her out !! I need to take an after pic to show what an amazing job it did filling her out .. This feed has simply amazed me out of everything I've ever fed .

I would feed a combo of Alfalfa and grass hay morning and night and grain if necessary lots of people on here love triple crown. I feed my Firewater Flit grandson nutrena senior to help keep him filled out and he looks great hes 15 though. I  have never had to do the calcutions and percentages of hay for a horse, seems very complex to me I like easy if its an option :)

I feed and mix all kinds of things... soaked beat pulp, 707 daily essentials, cosequin, oats... and pelleted feed for the two with sensitive stomachs and a high protein grain to the other three. I like to give 1 flake of alfalfa at night .. but they stay looking good without it, I feed three flaks coastal AM and PM, except two, because one will stay FAT on two, and the other wont finish that amount. I had a super hot horse and put her on strategy healthy edge, NO alfalfa .. and electrolytes.. she was a super star night and day difference. You have to feed according to the horse.... if you have one that it doesn't matter what he eats.. I think the pellets are great as far as calming, the strategy I want to say has something in it that adds a calming affect. If you just want to feed the same thing, I would go with the feed that benefits the hot mare, and no I wouldn't give her alfalfa if she is a hot mess... UNLESS she was completely finished and works great hot or not.. it's really up to you do what you feel is best for your horse and how you want her to behave.
