| Just wondering what people prefer as far as build goes besides the obvious ideal conformation. Do people like more of a lean running machine better or a stocky foundation type? Just wondering experiences and thoughts when it comes time for me to look for a new prospect. |

Location: Louisiana | While I certainly can appreciate a stockier built horse, what I drool over is a lean, mean, running machine. I like a horse that just looks like it can fly(and yes, that's def not always the case lol). I have ridden both types and we've all seen both types win. I also tend to prefer what I'm currently running. I never liked sorrels until I got T-Bo. Now, I really like a nice looking red horse! Even better if it's at least 16 hands. |

Location: Weatherford, TX | I prefer a leaner type horse. I have usually went with bigger more TB types. Most of ours have been above 16H. My current DTF 'lifer' is now 15. He us 16.3H and the fastest thing I have ever sat on. However, I am now looking for my next 'lifer' as a colt and would prefer one around 15.2-3H. I prefer one that is 'uphill', a high shoulder, thinner middle, short top line, higher head set. Movement is very big to me...more of an over-step. Big butt and a big reach with the hind end. I don't even mind 'sickle hock' or 'a little cow hock'. I'm now now looking for more bone (but with still the above included) so I could do rodeo. In the past, we have done mostly futurities, derbies and opens. I hope I described all that look for.

| The kind that wins. Seriously, anywhere from 14.2 to 16.2, built like a tank, built like a deer - I have no preference.
Look at Stingray, and compare her to Latte or even June Holeman's horse. Barrel racing is the one discipline where it's hard to judge the book by its cover. |

Location: on my horse | I like my little stout horses with lots of bone best in general so even better if I find one that can run
Long underline, adequately angled pasterns and good sloping shoulder is what I look for, in addition to straight clean legs, etc. |

| I prefer something that is a little more stocky, but not TOO stocky.. I'm just not a fan of the lean and racy types. |

| I've always drooled over the looks of these big, stocky horses. The ones that look like they just came out of the gym... but I've got a little guy who has all the right parts but is the most wiry little thing ever... I still like him even though he's much different than what I usually go for. |

| Hopefully these pics work. The sorrel is my Tres Seis gelding and the chestnut is a Chicks Bedunio/Runaway Winner. These two are my perfect build! Big 16 hands and built! Both off the track! |

Very true, but I bet if you look at all those horses you will find that they are balanced. To me, balance is the biggest thing that you can actually describe other than by saying "he/she LOOKS like an athlete."
I personally gravitate towards bigger horses (15.1 to 16 hands) because I'm in love with the longer strides they seem to have, but they have to be balanced and I think all of mine are, though that picture I posted of Cliff doesn't do him justice. I think he is too friendly for me to get good conformation pics of him loose in the pen. |

Location: Royal J Performance Horses, AZ | now let me be clear the best and most succesful horses range in size, shape, breeding, ETC so i'm by no means saying this is the only kind of a horse that I THINK can win. This is just what I, ME MYSELF AND I like to see when i look for build.
Balanced: a head that matches the neck that matches the shoulder, back, hip, etc. on top of that I like a low placed croup if i can get it, low hocks, a deep chest as well as one with width to (not too much but just enough). and I like those big ole booty horses. I like the horses with muscle and power. when you look at them you just go **** that a s s.
The few things i'd change on this mare is more bone, lower croup, and maybe like a tiny bit of a wider chest, ( just a little bit) She is very deep though. on top of her build i love her personality. She is one extra special mare to me!
I have a mare that i really like right now that is almost all of what I look for in a horse, I'll see if i can get a picture up.

Location: Texas | I'm a sucker for a big hip and shoulder. I want a horse that looks like it can fly. I don't like one to be muscle bound but I want substance in my horses. I'm also a stickler for good legs and good hocks. I don't like long thin pasterns and really angled fetlocks. I want just enough. and I don't like one to be straight from the stifle through the hock, I want angles and short cannons. and I really like a deep heart girth that ties in nice and tight in the flank.

She's a really nice horse I got her from NC they futuritied her everywhere OKC, FT SMITH, etc. I've only had her a few years. She got kicked and ended up having a bone infection and needed surgery. Then of course I had a baby but I'm so excited to run her this year. She's the most powerful, soft in the face and body, talented horse I've ever ridden.

| Confirmation is very important. They must be balanced.
But for me, the deal breaker is movement. It can be the prettiest, most balanced horse out there and if it moves like a Mack truck... I don't want it. I want a horse with minimal knee and hock action. Charmayne's Grasshopper horse is a perfect example of a horse that has no wasted motion. Our Vegas is the same way. So was Sidekick. They literally look like they are just out there loping the pattern and they stop the clock.
That's what I look for. |

Location: So. Cali. | I like that "inbetween" horse, but most of all, balanced. I like a little body to them with a running build.
I bred my upcoming prospect just to my preference. Got a super thick balanced shorter stallion and bred him to a super lean Appenidx racey mare.

But since i know thats never happening id like something 15.3-16.2 beef cake, and preferably a leopard/blanket app or a colorful paint :)i think because im small and kind of plain i wantsomething large and in charge and abnoxious in the color dept.
