I already told my husband I am going to the American next year (qualifying won't happen lol). I would have been there this year had I not been 38 weeks preggo. Talk about bad timing :

My daughter and I want to try. There is always a chance to make it, my horse could have the run of a lifetime. It would be fun to just be a part of it.

I am kicking myself for not pushing Hope last year to qualify. This year, you can bet momma won't make that mistake again, lol!

Last year, Hope wasn't willing to pay the fee. Plus the college rodeo at Sheridan was the same weekend as the Loveland qualifier. I already plan on having her talk to her rodeo coach about the dilemma.

She needs to for sure!  That little horse can hang with anyone.  If I had the horse, I'd be trying to get there.

I agree....but maybe it was for the best....she has one more year of experience under her belt and the timing could be "just right" for the next one!!!!

We went to watch the semifinals in Mesquite last week. When we left I said, "If T-Bo is running good when the qualifiers roll around, you can bet I'll find $500 to enter!" It was a great rodeo and lots if money to be won. Do I think he can run with pro horses? I don't know, but I feel like we have a fair shot to qualify to a once in a lifetime type of run!
Question...Can Richy Champion qualify next year or will he not he allowed, since he won the million?

I'd like to if they keep a qualifier at the Lincoln Barrel Bash, and if I can have Chance and or Clifford throwing down smoking runs at that time of year. I thought about it last year but Chance and I were struggling a little in September and it would have cost almost half a month's pay for me to enter so I couldn't risk it.

That's where I'd be hoping to try for it as well if I think I have a horse good enough. My hauling partner was supposed to pay the qualifying fee at Lincoln last year but chose not to for good reason. Ended up tipping a barrel but would have made the top ten had she not. Hindsight twenty twenty, it was a smart choice to not pay the fee. But I dang sure am hoping she can this year!!

I can tell you about this years, as I dont yet know if there will be changes for next year. This year we had 5 shows that anyone can put up $500 for a chance to run to get into the American. At each show the top 10 were invited to Mesquite for the Semi-Qualifactaions. So there were 50 riders there, plus BBR had an exemption and they decided to bring the winner of their finals from last year. From that group, 20 moved on to the next round, that was split up into 2 performances. From that round, 10 moved onto the Finals. Also at the finals were the top 10 standings from last years WPRA (after the WNFR) plus RFD-TV could bring one exemption (Charmayne James). Those 21 runners ran and the top 4 moved onto the shoot out.

I appreciate the sentiment, I truly do! I give myself plenty of credit for the things that I am good at. I also know where my weaknesses lie. There are definitely people who are just "winners". I wasn't necessarily in that line. I was next door, learning to create them.

Thanks! There's a lot of work to be done, and this is all pending a safe and easy delivery of her baby and that everything goes well legging up.. but my time running barrels is going to be very precious and limited so I better shoot high and chase some dreams before I get too busy and caught up with school to haul anymore!

I'd have to see where my mare is at, but if we are running tough 17.0's in AZ next winter and they have it down there, might as well. If you are tough, I don't see why you wouldn't try. $500 entry fee is nothing if you are a 1D winner.

If it wasn't $500 to enter I would live to give it a try. Especially if they do loveland as a qualifier.... my horse loves that pen.

If my horse is sound and we are both healthy, I'll definitely give it a shot! What an amazing experience that would be!!

If I was good enough, I'd try out

I'm pretty sure I can't hang with the pros just yet. So I will save my 500 bucks. Lol

If I still barrel raced, was 50 lbs lighter, had the money, had a good horse, had some fashion sense, had a rich sugar daddy.......

Honestly, I think it would be super cool to do! Go get'em girls!

Another thing to remember is that if you get to the semis-and they especially all the way to the American-you had better be riding a rodeo horse.   As much noise and commotion going on-a super nice jp 1d horse that hasn't been around that kind of stuff is not going to have much chance against  a seasoned rodeo horse.
It looked to me like reading through the people that won at the qualifiers-a lot of them were riding really nice horses but not RODEO horses.  JMO

I would love it if they made it a yearly event. I don't have a horse right now ready to go but have a couple youngsters I have high hopes for in a few years. I can't wait to start them next spring and work on them. I miss competing and would try just for the adventure!

SKM - 2014-03-03 6:28 AM I am kicking myself for not pushing Hope last year to qualify.

V, if only they would have had this in the Spanky and Rambo days...

GOBABYGO - 2014-03-03 12:44 PM Anyone know what qualifying races for the American  in 2014?

Same races as 2013?

Qualifiers have not yet been determined.  Once they are they will be announced.  Hoping for the same as last year!

I really think you should make sure that WHEN you get it... you make sure your dates don't conflict with the College Rodeo dates *hint hint* *nudge nudge* *wink wink*.

Which is why I am even more excited, because my horse excels in the rodeo scene more than she does at a 5D….
