I have aquired a 2 yr old (2 in April) that was not fed very well since weaning. He has good height, but lacks lbs, and muscle tone. Currently he is on a 12% protein 5% fat feed along w/canola oil, and, of course, hay. Any recomendations on what I can give him to help him out?

I'd put him on a higher fat percentage feed and not just canola oil. It helps a bunch but they have a better mix of healthy fats incorporated into the feed. Many Triple Crown feeds and Ultium are high fat. A higher protein feed will help him build muscle.

That said, he's likely to gain weight on what you're feeding him so long as he's fed consistently and fed enough.

Alfalfa. I always say, you could feed stall shavings if you fed alfalfa!

I agree with Ultium. I would go Ultium Growth. That baby will look like a million bucks in no time! And I will throw in THE Muscle Mass because I think that stuff is powdered gold

I need to order some THE from you in the next couple of weeks lol. I feed a high protein grain, along with calf manna everyday and my two young ones look great.

I tried Calf Manna too one year and really liked it, but it isn't in my area so I had to really stock up when I went to the big city. Good stuff though.

I would try to find a feed that is 14% protein and a higher (between 8-12%) fat, or find a feed specifically designed for growing horses. I prefer Tribute or Safechoice feeds personally! The safechoice perform really helps put a good coat and weight on them. :)

How much of your current feed are you feeding?
Weight doesn't show up over night, it's such a process... and at this age, the grow spurts are killer on looks...lol
I feed my colts as well as I feed my riding horses... so if you are feeding him less cause he's 2... don't... the more you feed you give now, will help with how the horse keeps later...
