I always give my horses December through at least the first half of February off anyway, but my good horse hasn't been ridden in about 355 days (but who's counting?) and was only recenlty released to ride. |

We are headed over Friday AM and start running Friday PM. Leaving Sunday.
I have an unused temp stall for Thursday night if anyone is in need too |

Location: Kansas | I am entered on 3 head Friday night/Saturday morning in open, 2 runs Saturday night Bonus round and 1 run Sunday morning in bonus. 2 of mine have been running occasionally all winter but the 3rd hasn't run since Dec. 1st. I'm riding all of them - plus my new prospect/project - every day I can and trying to get everyone in tip-top shape by then, plus hoping no one gets hurt between now and then because I don't have a fourth horse that's patterned. |

I'm hoping mine are a little less fat. I'm not to worried about the furry. Although they are shedding slightly, with this weather, I don't know if I want them to lose their hair! |

One of the horses I entered, I have had to permanently retire a week ago. One of the other horses I could run, in her place, came up sore last weekend. So I am down to either a futurity hopeful that I haven't even had on the clock yet, or possibly my stud, who is fat and out of shape and has only run barrels twice in the last 3 years LOL. Guess I won't worry about it much, last year my bags & trailer were packed and ready to pull out of the yard and I ended up getting blizzarded in. |

Location: western Nebraska | I had four bonus spots so I entered four horses. One a fat, out of shape exstud that needs a couple months to get in shape. One is a rehab-basically a run away that I try to lope to the first barrel, One is another rehab I bought last summer and just now have finally started taking and am slow loping to the first barrel. The other one is a calf horse with two weeks on the barrels. We have had so much snow that now it has been warm the last couple of days so we have water and mud everywhere. I started riding on the county road this week because it is the only semi-dry place. I am so not ready but I have decided I am going to go just for fun, sell lots of puppies, and sell some beaded over and unders if I get any done. Oh and I will visit a lot, eat a lot and probably get a couple of new ulcers from it all. |

I'm taking 3 and I have only 1 good horse...the other 2 sound like what you described but I'd bet my bottom dollar yours are pretty darn nice. Mine will be lucky if we make the pattern without an oxygen tank. I'll probably need one too. I really look forward to meeting you Doglady and I want one of your beaded over and unders so please get at least one done for me. |

I may be in a similar situation if we can't get Chance and Joker lined out. I just pulled Joker off the round bale and started him on ventipulmin hoping I can get his breathing back under control, and Chance is getting a pile of medicines plus a new type of pads at his reset on Tuesday. Of course, there is always the possibility that when his feet feel good, something else will show up.
My backup if either of them can't run is Streak, who has three days on the barrels, but finally today learned he can follow his nose and bend a little bit to the right. They aren't going to mistake him for Martha anytime soon but I don't mind a straighter turning style so I'm happy that he trotted a pretty correct pattern this afternoon.
I had 6 spots, entered 4 and drew one out at the deadline. I thought that way I could take my time patterning Streak and do things right rather than risk staying entered and not having him ready. It was tough to make the decision when I'd only had him a week and had gone around the barrel pattern 3 total times at nothing faster than a trot.
It seems like Clifford is the only one who will for sure be ready, in shape and feeling great! But I am still looking forward to it!! |

My daughter and I got 4 rode and 1 ponied. We felt pretty good about it too. The field we had to ride in was so inconsistant with parts powder dirt, some wet spots that were unthawed on top but slicker than snot underneath, some ice and drifts of snow in other spots. We couldn't do much but no one got bucked off and felt good to be horseback after a few days of not being able to ride. I hate to admit it but dang I'm sore tonight. LOL Tomorrows high is 24 and blustery according to the weather man. Then starting Friday its going to be above freezing temps for highs for the next 10 days.

I'm not sure what it was at Tulsa, but I had trouble there too. It was a great setup for Chance and Cliff, but none of my runs were very good and I even hit a barrel on Chance (only hit 6 all year on him).
I'm so excited about the time change - it will be nice to actually get all the horses ridden and not have to start at noon. woo hoo!!! |

Yeah they have 3 arenas up there and one is dedicated as a warm up arena, plus there are a couple of fairly large round pens with sand in them outdoors. Although last year I warmed Megan up in the alley of the stall barn the connects to the MPA arena because I was short on time. I think I got in the barn at draw 56 and she was #70. Somehow all 3 of my horses drew up in the 1st 150 of the session so I was really hurrying between them!
I'd like to go back to Tulsa when its not freezing cold with ice on all the pavement. Chance about wiped out just getting out of the trailer there. :(
Lincoln is a great setup and I wish I lived closer so I could go there more often. The only arena I don't like is the MPA where we run the open race because its so small, and actually I liked it for Joker but it was not a great fit for Chance. |

There is also a HUGE grass/CRP field that has a mowed path around it. It's nice for the horse to decompress out there without all the hubbub of speakers, hundreds of people, lots of horses, dogs, etc. |

Yep you are sure in a pickle. How many did you enter? Girlfriend sure is nice so maybe she'll be ready to go. I'm on plan F or something like that. The Knippling gelding I hauled last year hurt his suspensory in September and not ready to roll yet so I'm hopefully taking Emily's mare and my old (ex) stud who hasn't run in 3 years along with Crackhead. I guess its a 5D so there's room for everyone and my biggest thing is its been a long winter and I'm looking forward to having fun with friends I haven't seen in months!!!!! |

I entered 2. Your luck sounds like mine! Girlfriend's fit, I just haven't been able to go anywhere to get runs on her. I've been riding nothing but 3 & 4 year olds all winter, so I need to get out of trainer mode and back into jockey mode for her. Entered Rapid City rodeo, it was -35 the day I was supposed to run so I turned out. It was insanely cold the weekend of the jackpot out there so I didn't go to that either. I planned to try to go to a jackpot last weekend @ Sioux Falls, big surprise, it was -33 that morning. Sooooo.....yeah.....she's ready but I am probably not! LOL! I just need to get somewhere for some runs and there are a few coming up that I am just going to have to suck it up and go to. My 5 yr old that came up sore, seems to be doing better now. I will take her in to the vet for a re check next week and hopefully he will give me the go ahead to get back on her. She'll be green, but like you said, it's a 5D. She's been working nice at home and the 2 jackpots I've been able to get her to. Gotta start somewhere, right? |

I need a jackpot before Lincoln too. Those are few are far between. Yep there's no way I was doing RC or SF with the cold. Just not worth it. I'm going to a Connie Combs clinic with Crackhead for 3 days the 21-23 so that will be nice. I'm trying to talk Emily into taking her mare so at least she'll get some work done and a place to make a couple runs. Old Bugs is like riding a bike but still need to make a run some place. This could be interesting for both of us. LOL |

| My weekend will be interesting too....I have my finished horse that I think is sound, but I'm not entirely sure yet...two six year olds that I'm just getting ready to haul--one has been to a couple jackpots, the other has been away from home once....and three 5 yr old futurity horses...that are just getting ready to haul and have only been to one jackpot! I will just hope for completed patterns! |

I am not sure...they are breeding him this spring. They had mentioned possibly running him this fall at the derbies but I'm not sure if they have decided for sure. However, I am futuritying another stud by FG out of Sheza Dr Kirk for Jerry this year--and I am super excited about him. He is really nice!

Like Amy, my stud is also out of practice. right now he is hay belly fat. and he will have mares on his brain. So, I will be there with him just to make a clean run and hope if falls in the 2d $!

My big, shoot for the moon goal is to take the lead in the 1D on Clifford after they announce him as the reigning 5D champion. LOL. Although at this point, my #1 goal is to have Chance sound so he can run there. My other two look like they're on track but I don't want to have to push Streak to have him ready, and he's my only backup option outside of borrowing a horse. Since I didn't buy stalls, I feel bad asking anyone to loan me a horse. Hopefully Chance will be feeling great, but if not I may take Streak assuming he's cruising a decent pattern and run him in Chance's open spots to save Chance for the bonus round. |

I love that about it. We qualified in the 5D, but finished out last season stronger. Came back a month ago with a new saddle and he just feels good. Blessed enough to have an indoor so I at least don't have to worry about the wind, but the bitter cold has stopped us a few times.
About to go get the trailer checked over for it's first haul of the year tomorrow to a little jackpot. He was fresh last night...so he'll get the pants rode off him today and that might keep me from dying tomorrow.
Super excited! |

The same thing happened to me. I entered way early and then I entered my mom 20 mins after I entered myself. She got dirt and I didn't. She was #100 on the list and I was #300 something. Do want make sense bit I guess the system didn't put me in until way late |

Isn't there a special on Easyboot RXs delivered to Lincoln by Sonya Walz?
If it were me, I'd be bedding that stall knee deep in shavings, putting my horse in the stall at the very last minute and yanking him out as soon as the sun comes up. At state NBHA last year, my horses never spent more than 8 hours at a time in their stalls even though those are dirt stalls. I kept them at my trailer as much as possible because they're happier there than in an unfamiliar stall. |

I've got 3 horses going and not enough Soft Rides to go around. I've got some 4 x 6' or (something like that)stall mats that aren't real thick or heavy so I can handle them fairly easy. I'll roll them up tight and put them on my hay rack. Coming home they'll be full of pee and poop so I'll lay them out for another cushion in my trailer to stand on. I'll also use lots of shavings. I hope those are priced reasonably. I'm starting to wish I hadn't entered all 3 of my spots. If these stalls are sized decently it will help so the horses can move around. I was in Verndale, MN last year and got the worlds smallest stall for my big stout mare. She couldn't even turn around and that was on concrete. I think I had 8 bags of shavings in there. |

Location: Nebraska | I want to say shavings are between $8-10 a bag, but don't quote me on that. I've never had to stall there. When I went to the BBR finals a few years ago, I got these interlocking play mat things from either Target or Walmart. They're light and foam but I can't remember how much they cost. They worked just fine for my paint mare loaded with shavings and we were on concrete. |

I was thinking of those too. I know someone once mentioned they moved around quite a bit with their particular horse. I can see where they would work for my gelding but my 2 mares have ants in their pants so they might come apart. I think I saw that some people just throw them away after they use them? |

We duct taped them together. I didn't have issues with mine coming apart at all and my mare absolutely hates being in stalls. She wasn't in for longer than overnight, though. Mine were still decent to use and I keep them in my trailer just in case but you could throw them away. |

Duct tape is an awesome idea. I'll check those out at Menards in the next couple days. My stall mats are going to be a pain to haul down there but I'll do what I have to, to keep the horses happy. |

| Harbor freight has a set of 4 2x2 1/2" interlocking mats for $10. So for $40 you could pad an 8x8 area, should get most of a stall? Or do 6x10 and leave a path at the back or front of the stall... Considering it. Neoprene rubber is the material, would 1/2" do much???
I like the idea of having them for the future too, but not being out much if they get tore up |
