ok.. so I am not finding anything I really like for my mare who is a bit swaybacked.... not terrible.. but there is a bit of bridging. going on there. I have looked into the cashel swayback pad that has the wool blanket over top, but my understanding is it is a neoprene bottom, and it is quite a stiff pad and takes some time to break in. The other option I have found is the reinsman swayback pad.. but that also.. with the tacky too.. is neoprene.. which I would prefer not to use on this mare. my question is.. could I, or has anyone else on here "make" their own pad for their swaybacked horse?? What I was thinking was buying some shims and sculpting them to her dip, an then sew them or have them sewn on to a wool pad. any one done something similar/??

I sound like a broken record lately talking about the pad I use for my gelding but it has been the only pad that worked for him. I use a Diamond Wool Pressure Relief pad.

First picture is of the pad itself. There is 3 removable shims on both sides, I only uses the first two. The second picture is of Vinny without the pad on and the third is of him with the pad and saddle on.

I use the front two shims on both sides so I take out the last one on both sides. I believe its an inch.

Pic of the diamond wool pad. I think it looks more level with this pad.

First pic horse looks butt-high. Second pic angle is bad, but really does look sway. I'd be working on muscle tone, doing horsey sit-ups, cavelletis, hill work; anything to build topline. How old is second horse? I'm asking because I had one that lost topline because of a shoulder injury that I didn't recognize.

I bought a swayed back horse recently. He looks more swayed back than the pic you put up. I bought a "5 Star" 1 inch pad that is working well.

Pics are all of the same horse. Just posting to show/compare how the different pads set on her. She is 18, has had a few foals previously also.

I just bought the Reinsmans Sway pad BUT with the Maize fleece lining. I love it. My horse is not really a swayback but he is rump high. No more saddle bars sticking into his scapula. I was concerned that it would slip but it doesn't move at all. The quality is was not what I had hoped for though. But keeps my horse comfortable for now.
