Can anyone tell me about Shockwave Therapy, what you used it for? Cost? Did it work? I have a 4yo with an avulsion fracture at top of rear cannon bone. Will be stall rest for 2-3 months but didn't know if shockwave would help to heal it or speed it up? Any info would be appreciated!!!

The vet here in Louisiana quoted me 140.00 for 250 pulses per session which doesn't include sedation. And it would take up to four sessions. Mine has a hairline fractured splint bone:/
I decided just to stall rest him.

I've used it on several types of injuries. Had an x-race horse with similiar injury and I do believed he benefited from the shock wave. I also love runners relief. And Dr. Green aka pasture time. Very strict in my come back on these horses.

My vet charges $100 per session and no sedation was used on my horse and he is often a bit rowdy but he stood right there and seemed to like it. I had 6 treatments done for a torn suspensory and it healed well and no problems since and that was 4 years ago. Well worth the cost.

Have you thought of using a Theraplate. It will increase blood flow and speed healing. That and a laser. When my mare fractured her splint bone that is what I used and BOT wraps. Runners relief is also great.

My gelding had a fractured splint bone and my vet recommended Shockwave, however I have a laser boot he could wear so I opted to try that for 12hours a day set to 30 min sessions every 2 hours. He went back after two weeks and it looked great so we kept up with that.

Thanks everyone!! They're saying 2-3 months of stall rest. Would using the shockwave speed things up in healing it time wise? I don't want to jeoparadize anything by getting on her too soon for sure! She also has some edema in the same leg on outside of cannon where she kicked something we think, (different injury than fracture) barely broke the skin but developed cellulitis for a bit. Would shockwave help that area and the edema? It's nothing huge just a little bump. Thanks again!
