If someone is nice enough to let you take a horse to a place to try them for a couple days, what do you do?
Sign a letter with a price for the horse discussed between you?
Of course pay for everything while you have the horse, but what else?

Please keep in mind it is the weekend, I can't get insurance on the horse today, but I would if I could!

I would have something in place with the owner in writing about who will be responsible if something should happen while the horse is in your care.  Not just in the case of death but also injury.  I have seen these kind of arrangements end very badly.  Have an agreement on if you are able to enter and compete on the horse prior to purchase as well as a set date for return if it doesn't work out.  Good luck!
