Ok guys finally found a saddle that fits my horse like a glove but way out of my price range. What are your guys views on Coats saddles. Worth spending the money for? I have decided on an all around saddle sense hes such a pain in the but to fit. But fun to rope off of.
My opinion is that they are over priced. They are a top line, top made saddle. BUT my idea, is that no one saddle will fit all horses. I know they will "sell" you different trees, etc. to fit different horses, but, right now, we have 7 saddles that we use to fit our herd. At 3-5k a pop, that becomes quite an investment.
I see a lot of hand made custom saddles that can cost a lot less--just not the name -- yet.
Coates do seem to have the best resale and you will probably hold your money together easier than most but I won't justify that investment...yet anyway.
I'm not trying to bash anyone's name. But I will share my opinion, and I don't like lazy l.
The two I rode were not balanced. They clearly set on every horse kicked off to one side.
The pomel was crooked and the horns were also.
Running your hands down the bars you could feel the unevenness in the trees
All horses rode like crap in these saddles and ribbed out
Again it's my expierence and my opinion
With time lazy l may have a saddle as good as a coats

I have a coats and my sister has a lazy l. They are the same exact trees! We both have the flex wide tree in our saddles. This was verified by the serial numbers on the saddle. This saddle fit my horse when nothing else would and Larry Coats stands behind both brands. If you get one and it doesn't fit, call him...let him know the issues and he will do what he can to make it right. Not many saddle companies will you be able to call and actually speak with the individual that designed the saddle. Great to work with...Good Luck in whatever you chose! He even stands behind his used saddles so you don't have to buy directly from him to get the same service.
