Hi I have never had a foal born on my farm before and my mare is getting close, what kind of iodine product do you use for the foals umbilical cord? The only iodine product I found at our farm store in town is 7% iodine and I had read somewhere that it only needed to be 1-2%..... will this still be ok to use or are there other antiseptics you can use?

Put it in a spray bottle and dilute it. Also, if this is your first foal, the AQHA web page actually has a very easy read on first foals. Your local vet should also be a great help. Good luck.
