Location: Post Falls, ID | We are shopping for a new trailer and I'm wondering about the width with mangers. I havent found to many that are 8ft wide. How many would consider one that is less than 8ft wide. What are the big draw backs other then less room for the horses? |

| Our first one wasn't 8 wide. I wanted an 8 but Hubby didn't think we should get one that wide. Our last two have been 8 and now he even says he wouldn't go back to the narrower ones. Not only does the horses have more room but it makes a huge difference in the LQ. |

| I would not buy anything less than 8 wide. Buckets, etc fit a whole lot easier. |

| I am on my second 8 ft. wide LQ. I wouldn't want a narrower trailer than if it has manger. 8' wide is very common and you shouldn't have to look to hard to find one new or used. Of course, it's going to cost a little more. Just like anything else you get what you pay for. I do know people that have the 7.5' wide and like them though. |

Well in my area, I'm finding alot of new trailers that are 7ft and 7.5ft. I like everything about the trailer but the width. |

Location: California | I have an Elite that is a 7' wide with mangers and it works fine for my needs. I was actually surprised at the amount of stuff I was able to fit in the mangers. I wanted an 8' wide but there was not a chance I was going to be able to afford it so it was this trailer or no LQ. My old trailer was an Elite Mustang style (no mangers) and the stalls in my current trailer seem larger than the old one. The last stall is really roomy for my gelding who is pretty large. My trailer is an Elite Colt style and it fits my needs. You do notice the LQ space is small, but in all the times I've used it I've just been in it to sleep or shower and then sleep so it's really not that big of a deal. You just wouldn't want more than 1 person traveling with you. |

Location: Post Falls, ID | Thanks for the responses so far. So we are looking for ones with a slide out. We have 2 young kids, so need the xtra room.. I also agree on the price increase. 4 horse, slide out and 8FT wide  sticker shock for sure. I think though that if I'm going to spend that kind of money would I be happy with one that is 7 or 7.5 Foot wide.. I also dont care for rear tacks, but that too seems to be all I can find.. So I may have to settle for that.. |

| I have an exiss, a dealer order this one for herself it is 8 foot wide and 14 lg, the stalls are least 40 inches and i think 42 inches as my gelding was squashed in my old trailer that was 7'6 wide, it really shouldnot be that much difference but it is. Love my front drop downs. |

Location: SW New Mexico | I am actually having a hard time trying to find a quality 8' wide LQ , used , within my budget. Brother Dave is 16HH and 1.300lbs, and barely fits a 7X7 Sooner Weekender..

The width of the trailer doesn't matter on the mangers. The mangers are going to be the same size no matter the width of the trailer.
I've had 8' foot wide, 7' wide and 6' foot wide trailers with mangers. All were fine. The narrower the trailer the steeper the angle has to be so the horse will still have the same length of stall and width between partitions. In a 6' wide trailer with mangers the stalls are not slanted all that much.
In an 8' wide trailer the horse is standing almost sideways. So you need a longer trailer for the same horses if you go with a narrower trailer.
You just can't sacrifice the horse's riding comfort for the mangers. |

The wheelwells are not inside the trailer on under 7 and half foot wide trailers. Not even inside on some 7 and half foot trailers. |

| Luv my exiss that is 40inch wide stalls and 8 foot wide. I bought it third hand a dealer ordered the trailer for herself and,her husband left her and she moved to,ga in it put it up for sale and people bought it that where trail riders may be used it 4 times, i,used it more last year, than the trailer was used its whole life my 16.1 1350lb gelding loved it. He fit in it niceley. And i have enjoyed that trailer with 14foot sw i love the l-shaped couch. I did not think i wouldli,e an exiss.

I think I worded my question wrong. I'm not worried about the mangers them selves. I have never been a fan of mangers. Because a horse can't lower its head if needed. I have read and heard that a trailer with mangers needs to be at least 8ft wide so that the horse has room to get back from the manger some and lower their heads.. Am I wrong for thinking this? Also in trailers that are wider, the wheel wells are in the trailer is that correct? Thanks for everyones help. |

^^^^^ This....I have posted the numerous times and people don't "get" it....you can have a 7 or 7.5 wide trailer and the horse has just as much room as the 8'.......it all depends on the ANGLE of the stalls and the length of the trailer. We had 4-Star build ours (7.5) and our horses have plenty of room......
