That is a hard question. Is the horse dependable for a timid rider? Meaning no buck, run off or gets strong approaching the barrel or in the warm up pen? What are the goals for the rider? Confidence, being able to concentrate on where your handsand feet are? Ipaid 1700 for the mare I am riding now. She is a former break away roping horse and pasture calf roping horse, that I am now taking around the barrels. She is dependable, my confidence and fear of hurting my back again are going away. She let's me concentrate on my hand placement, feet and body
position. But I have also seen some good 4 d horses like that for 3500. I think really does depends on that particular riders needs.
