| I haven't heard any updates but while they were waiting on care flight, they put her on a stretcher/board and loaded her in an ambulance to go meet the helicopter at a pad a couple miles up the highway. Someone said she was being flown directly to (Baylor?) in Dallas due to having a head injury. I don't know who she was and the arena staff would not say who she was but she looked pretty young/small. |

The staff and facility was very respectful and handled it well! |

Location: Texas | Update on the little girl. Now first off I don't feel it's necessary to judge or talk about someone's personal life so I want to give glory to The Lord for protecting this girl.
But here's the down low only posting so everyone knows she's going to be okay :)
The young girls pancreas was split in half and the damaged half was removed, and her liver was split open Damage all over and they were able to stop most the bleeding. They are keeping her sedated to make sure bleeding has stooped and she is past the critical part of the injury. She's a children's hospital in Dallas.

Location: Notquitea Ranch - Cleveland Horses-Brule, Ne | Prayers for the little girl and her parents. Can't count the times I dusted our girl off and helped her back on. Would never judge a parent for that - have to believe we all wouldn't put them on something we weren't sure of. And yes, I have seen little ones mounted on something I wondered WHY they were on it - but not having been there or know the girl or her parents, I think it's in poor taste to slam them at this tough time. |

I heard her name is Ally (which is also my nickname, Ali)
I hope she has a speedy recovery! I saw on FB that she is 8 years old. |

Location: TEXAS | It is so sad for the child & I hate it for the facility. Ironic, they were going above and beyond the norm for everyone's safety and enjoyment. They had safe child play areas, extra vigilant crew and too many other things to mention. The owner was so intent on being family friendly. Just sad. Prayers to all involved. |

SHR, if who you talked to was upset by something the arena crew did or didn't do I can tell you I was in section 2 and the owner of the place explained the rules they are required to go by as per their insurance. And given how EVERYTHING they did was by they book I believe it. I am sure there were some upset by that but I see their point of view. Again, prayers for the little girl and a speedy recovery. |

Oh no Sassy it was not the producers or facility. I apologize if anything I said may have implied that. I think from everything I heard this was a top notch production and I am so sorry this happened when they tried so hard to do everything right. I wish I had a horse and I wish I was healthy enough and I guarantee you I would be right there with you next time. Ahhh I digress. Continued prayers for this little girl. So much for her to have to go through in her young life. |

I know that crap happens...anywhere any time...but I will say that I have been happy to see more of the kids wearing helmets in western disciplines lately. Don't know if she was...I just have noticed it a lot more and I think that's a good thing. I've also seen some parents putting the impact vests on their kids too. Just like when the bull riders started wearing their helmets/vests...It took them some time getting used to it...but it's a good thing really...especially for the kiddos that look to their parents and heros to emulate.

Not in Texas Bibs. Not even close. You maybe see a handful of kids riding in helmets down here and it is because the parent says so, not the facility.
And thanks for clarifying SHR. Jason made a comment saturday night that implied there were people upset about how the accident was handled and he really stressed the rules they had to abide by so I had assumed that was what you were talking about. And that's what happens when you assume. :)
And you better be on the path to getting on a horse and riding!!! :) PS-come out this weekend!! We are running in the second session again on saturday. I will have Grasshopper with me too. :) |

Yes I am guilty for assuming too but that is what happen when you assume. I won't go into detail but this was not the first problem with that horse that day....that is all I am going to say. I would love to come to next one but I can tell you I don't have the strength. I went with a friend to another one this past weekend and I am so tired still today. Chemo and radiation have just about done me in. Thanks for the invitation though. Please anyone that has an update on this little girl please let us know how she is doing this morning. | One rule that facility has (that is not common in TX yet) is that all kids must have an adult with them in the holding pen (for next 5 runners) and at the alley. Prior to this accident, I thought that was a little extreme but considering what happened, I am very thankful that rule was in place and her parents were there so there was no confusion about what happened. The facility has done EVERYTHING they know to do to make this place safe for everyone. A lot of thought and detail has been put into it.....very impressive place. Continued prayers for the little girl |

| I agree that kids should wear helmets!!!!! I was at the race but had gone home before the accident thankfully. As a mother of three that love to ride it scares me daily that they will be injured. All three of our girls know the rules of our barn and the first one is that you don't even catch your horse without your helmet on. I never had to wear a helmet growing up and thankfully despite a few scares and some concussions I ended up okay! I wish more parents would enforce this practice. |

Dang it we missed each other AGAIN!! I ran in the 1st section and was out of there by noon. Running #141 in the 1st section again this weekend!! I also ran at the Runnin Late For Love race on March 1st there.....the entire staff went above and beyond.....absolutely LOVE this place!! What were people upset about in the way the situation was handled? I remember Jason explaining for section 1 that morning that any child under the age of 13 was required to have a parent in the arena with them at all times and that if they were to get hurt that his staff was not to touch them......is that what people were mad about? |

I know also of the 4H clubs around us require that also! I wear one at the shows where a hat is required.
