Location: Minnesota | Does anyone have any good suggestions for healthy meal ideas that will still include "healthy" calories? I'm trying to get to 2200 cal/day..right now I'm at around 1400. I work a lot during the day so I don't have time to sit down and have a snack. Im having gluten free rice cakes (2) w/ natural PB and a little honey in the mornings for breakfast (around 5am) Get to work around 730, try to squeeze in a Greek yogurt in between getting there and 1 (lunch) and usually have chicken/veggies or a turkey burger/veggies for lunch...thought some times I don't always have time to eat my whole meal. Sometimes Ill snack on an apple between lunch and dinner, otherwise its usually a spinach salad for dinner, maybe a snack of popcorn around 7. Im really trying to monitor my sugar intake and am lactose intolerant so no cheese/milk which I love!! Just searching for what other people eat as a healthy meal to get some fresh ideas, even for quick snacks!

Location: Alberta | Google can cover anything a person can think of for recipes or meal ideas I'd start there. My only question is, does you employer not give you time to eat a meal or do you choose not to make the time to sit and eat? I understand eating on the go...but....food is important...and if you want to increase calories you will need to make time!!!
Snack Hard boiled eggs Almonds Cashews Bananas apples Carrots Cucumbers Meals Stir fry- favourite veggies whatever meat you prefer Tacos ( I don't eat mine with cheese) Protein shakes (yogurt, almond milk, fruit of choice, I also put spinach in mine) wraps (I use Udi's brand wraps, which are Gluten free)

I work in a dental office and when patients are not on time or we have emergency appts come in, there is not always time to sit down for a break when the lab needs to be caught up and your next patient comes in early. I wish people would realize that when they're 20 min late for their dentist appt that it ruins my entire day LOL I usually have enough time to scarf a few bites of yogurt or a couple crackers between patients and not a lot of time for food that takes awhile to eat...I used to always snack on bananas, and have now developed an allergy to them. I like the idea of almonds though, that sounds easy enough

these are great ideas...I usually have an apple and a bit of peanut butter (mmmm...best snack ever!) or a few strips of beef jerky in the afternoon before riding. A hard boiled egg is an easy, protein rich, on the go snack. you could start your day with a smoothie that has lots of protein and brain food, too, and you will find that this fills you up for the morning. I do lots of crock pot stuff because I don't have time to cook at night.

And what about when people get to their appointments on time and have to wait in a dental/doctor's (especially doctor's) office for an hour or more, what do you think it does to their day and/or lunch hour....just sayin' I guess it can be a viscious cycle....one person is late which throws all the other appts off. What kills me is when you've sat in a waiting room for 45 minutes and then you see the doctor walk in the building....grrrrrr.

Another thing I'll add, since I'm sure you'll figure out a plan....we have to give our mind and stomach time to register things when we eat. When we don't I call it mindless eating, sure foods going in but often our stomach doesn't tell our mind "ok I'm full stop or that's not enough I need more".

Location: In The Snow, AZ | Sheesh.... I'm proud of myself if I don't have ice cream, cookies and chips in one day. That will get you to 2200 Calories QUICK.
In all seriousness though, good for you. It takes a lot to drop the "ick" from ones diet. I wish I could.

Location: Gainesville, TX | If its calories you're wanting you need to pick foods that are higher in calories but healthy. These will usually be proteins or foods with healthy fat. Nuts & Seeds in general will apply (so your peanut butter). But don't forget something like an avocado. This is a very healthy fat and quite yummy. You can always take a hard boiled egg to work to eat. Increasing your protein portions will also help.

Replace the rice cakes for a slice of whole grain bread. You'll get more calories and more whole grain grams. Add a hard boiled egg for breakfast. It's quick and a great source of protein. Peanut butter also has a great source of protein but make sure you actually stick to a serving size (2 heaping spoonfuls is not a serving size) because they are calorie dense. Of course, same goes for the honey. I believe honey is a great immune-support food but it still is sugar so watch your serving size.
Almonds and nuts are an excellent quick snack for on-the-go. Make sure you choose UNSALTED because no one needs extra salt in your diet. Great way to add healthy calories too. So maybe throw some nuts into your Greek yogurt (excellent source of protein).
Make sure you eat your whole meal. Seriously. I work in an optometry office and my staff gets their lunch time. Yes, we can have crazy days too once in a while, where there is not time for lunch, but it's not the norm. If your office is THAT busy where you don't get time for a full lunch (technically by law you need to get your break time as an employee), then maybe your docs need to add some more staff. Add some brown rice or whole grain bread to your lunch for more healthy calories.
Move that apple to the morning, or else make sure you eat it with something else. Fruit is great, but fruit is also sugar. You want to eat your sugars earlier in the day so your body has time to metabolize it during the day. Eating it with something else (like nuts) can help balance out the sugar spike.
Cottage cheese and string cheese are great protein-rich snacks .... but I guess that won't work for you. Dang.
You can always grab a pre-made protein shake during the day. I just found a new brand I love at Sam's Club. It is the Premier Protein brand. It has 30 grams of protein, about 130 calories, and only 1 gram of sugar. And it tastes like chocolate milk. Love it! Protein is important to be healthy.
Spinach salad is great, especially those green leafy veggies ..... but make sure you don't load it with calorie-high dressing. And make sure you have some sort of protein on it.
If the need the popcorn because you are bored, fine. Make sure you go with air popped and no salt or butter. But if you don't need it, ditch the popcorn. Really no nutritional value in it at all. How about snacking on baby carrots and celery? (with no dip)
