Location: Home....Smiling M Farms | Anybody been to one? Did you like it? Pros? Cons? First day is for beginner/intermediate riders and day two is for more advanced riders...haven't been to a clinic like that. Any info would be greatly appreciated please. |

Location: Washington | Never been to one...but from people I know who have gone said it was a complete joke and a waste of their time and money. Also said that she was rather rude and to most of the people. |

| I went to a 2 day clinic of hers, but it wasn't set up like you mentioned. The first day we went over bits, equipment, and did drill work off the pattern. For me, it was enjoyable, but I was probably one of the advanced riders looking for a little more than what I got out of it. I definitely wouldn't say it was a joke, and she definitely was not rude! Maybe I'm bias though because she offered to take my mare a few times :) Honestly I can't even picture her being rude. She maybe says things you don't want to hear, but she won't let you make excuses and will tell it how it is....but I surely don't think she intends to step on anyone's toes or make them feel bad. The second day we worked on positions on the pattern, putting their hip underneath themselves at the barrel, etc. We made one run in the beginning, and one run at the end. We sat down in a living area in the barn and watched our videos.
I would say it depends what you're looking to get out of it. I wanted to put finishing touches on my mare, but I didn't really gain much benefit on her, because I was already doing most of the things Kelly was suggesting to students. If I were to go again, I would probably bring a colt to get someone else's set of eyes on and get some helpful reminders. It was a very good refresher for me because I went during May or June, so fairly early into the Minnesota season here. |
