So I have an own daughter of Special Effort, AAA and a AAA producer and can't decide who to breed her to. I will be selling the foal so my question is would you breed to a higher priced stud like Dash Ta Fame or a cheaper but not quite as proven stud like A Streak Of Fling or Firewaterontherocks? Which would make more profit and which baby would you buy?

I love Firewaterontherocks but if your thinking of Firewaterontherocks he is booked full for 2014. You can get booked to him for next year and that book is filling fast. Dash Ta Fame is always a good return and always a market but huge overhead now. I'd also look at Epic Leader and Slick By Design. Any of those will give you great marketability and a good return.

I would pick Firewaterontherocks.......I wouldn't call ASOF or FWOTR not quite as proven, they may not have as many offspring as DTF, but they definitely have winning progeny!

Yeah I kind of worded that wrong sorry, I know they are very proven in the arena but their babies aren't selling for quite as much or as quickly as DTF's do.

I'd look at Ivory James. Since your mare is a performer and producer at the track, I would breed to something that can go to both the track and the arena. His babies sell well at yearling race sales, and now that he's enrolled in Future Fortunes and has had some performers in the arena barrel racers are looking at him. I think that Dash Ta Fame also falls into the category, however you have a higher expense up front and need a vet that will do frozen semen.
Of course the rest of her pedigree needs to be taken into consideration when choosing a stallion. But I think in general if you look at prices of race prospect yearlings compared to barrel prospect yearlings you'll find that race prospects usually bring a higher price.

Love SBD. I'd love to have one of his foals someday!

I love my Ivory James filly as well, they are really getting a good following on the track and in the arena. Great dispositions and very easy on the eyes.

I'll go ahead and third the Ivory James. Mine was sold before she hit the ground. You'd double your market audience as well, barrel racers and track folks.
