I'm going to be completely remodeling my kitchen. Also, buying a new refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dish washer. Do you guys have any suggestions/ideas on kitchens and appliances.

I'm open to all ideas and being creative! How would you change your kitchen if you could?

Also, anyone have a stained cement countertop? Did it save you $, or was the labor so expensive you could've gotten granite?

Also, are there any negative things about get all stainless steel appliances? Any suggestions as to where is the best place to get them, and do they do package deals? Anyone, shopped at Sears Outlets stores, etc for these?

Thanks a bunch! All ideas are welcome! :)

I have Stainless Steel appliances and I LOVE them! It makes our kitchen look so neat and clean. You can get wipes to clean up fingerprints, or they have new stainless steel that resists fingerprints. Totally worth the investment... I love mine.

We have the LG Solid Surface countertops. I love them! I'm a total kitchen snob, lol!

We just built a house.  The kitchen isn't finished in the pictures but I dont' have current ones on my computer right now.

We did a wood pallet backsplash, brown concrete countertops along with a big old wash basin for our sink, rustic cabinets with a couple of cowhide inserts.  I really like the SS appliance, ours are Fridigaire and have the anti-fringerprint deal.  Still shows some but it's not bad.  We also have stamped concrete floors that look like hardwood.

I have a wall oven separate from our cooktop and I LOVE it.  I like the look and wanted my oven higher than the traditional floor mounted oven.  We put the dishwasher up about 6" off the ground.  Our countertops are 2-3" taller than average and our cupboards to the right and left of the sink are all big pullout drawers.  I'm 6' tall and hate having to bend over all the time to find stuff in the back of the cupboard so I made things as user-friendly as possible.

The last picture shows the pantry (red painted walls) on the left side of picture with the sliding barn door.  I didn't wants a lot of cupboards (those things are expensive) so we put in a big pantry.

I bought all of our appliances at Lowes and they were great to work with.  They had a deal going on that if you spent "X" amount of money you got an in-store rebate.  I'm a HUGE fan of scratch and dent stuff so I kept my eyes peeled and they had a fridge that was a loaner so we got it for hundreds less with the same warranty as a new one.

I got started on mine a few months ago....it is totally mid 80's with red laminate countertops and wallpaper with flowery border (ugh)...I took the wallpaper off.....my friend's brothers dismantled my old fashioned drop ceiling and redid it and replaced the fourescent lights with beautiful 6" can lights and a gorgeous routed crown molding above my cabinets.....I decided to paint my cabinets black and get a lighter counter....my sink is going to be black granite.....my backsplash is natural colored travertine tumbled subway style stacked (no grout)..pretty conventional, I know...I'm using western black & silver spur door pulls....

I already have my new appliances and I got stainless with the fingerprint protection stuff...they are very easy to keep clean and I did pay more for a better stove with a convection oven.....

I'm holding back on the counters because my area in the country doesn't really require granite for resale and it's very expensive...I'm not picky and I do like the nicer laminate counters, but maybe butcher block is an alternative...ideas?....

We are building next month, we bought Thermador appliances, 48" gas range, DW, and two 24" refrigerator columns instead of refrigerator/ freezer combo. They have a package deal now where you get the DW and hood free. We are putting in a scotsman under counter ice machine and will have an upright freezer in the utility room so opted for more frig space.   Here is a picture of a stained concrete counter made to look like wood.  I am doing this on my island,no leafs per the husband. Costs 30-35$/sq. ft- about the same as granite.  Cabinets are mesquite, and only have lower cabinets, all windows above.  Found this on houzz.com- best website ever for finding ideas.

Lol.  Now that's a good question!  This house I have moved into in the last couple of months is so much smaller than my previous house quiet is important to me at this stage.

Like RM3 said, Houzz is AMAZING!

I want a Wolf range sooo badly, just trying to convince husband!  I have an electric glasstop and I HATE it with a passion.  An induction one might not be too bad, but I want gas so badly.

Definetly do convection in your oven if it's available.  I have a double oven and it's only available on the top oven, but just one is better than none.

I love having a TV in my kitchen.  I love watching holiday movies when I'm cooking.  Cooking is my stress reliever, but adding a good movie or TV show is even better!

I have granite countertops and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

I just wish that I had outlets on my island when I am really busy in the kitchen and need more counter space.  I also wish that I had recessed lighting under my cabinets.  Love the look of that at night time!

When we built our house my Bosch dishwasher was my must have, and my husband knew I would not budge on it.  Now 6 months after living in our house the other night he was talking to some friends of ours that are building and HE recommended it. I think he is officially sold on it, even with concrete floors throughout the entire house you still cannot hear it unless you are within a foot or two of it...  LOVE IT!!!!

If you like a Wolf range but don't want to pay the Wolf price look at the KitchenAid range KDRS483VSS, I have got multiple comments from people about my 'Wolf' range which is in fact a KitchenAid, and a fraction of the cost. It has been used and abused since we have got it and haven't had a single issue, I LOVE it....

Also a nice thing with this model it has an Easy Convect, which you put in the temperature and the length that the recipe calls for and then it converts the temperature and the cook time to what the convection oven needs.

When I pulled up the range just now on the internet I was shocked at the cost, I am not 100% postive what we paid for it, but I would say almost half of what I just found it on the internet.

I haven't read all the replies.

First, granite and stainless steel hold value if you plan on selling.  I love my stainless steel.  I have a fridge and dishwasher.  Someday we will replace our white stove but for now it works.  There is a cleaner for the stainless steel that works awesome to keep finger prints off!  Use it about once a month.

I WILL have stained concrete counter tops some day.  I won't do them in this house because we will sell this house.  Not because I don't think it will sell, but because we want to do them ourselves and it's a ton of work (we have a ton of counter space) so honestly it's just an easy out for us to do granite.  Though we have seriously thought about taking the money we would spend on some upgrades and putting it in escrow or something to allow the buyers to pick out what they want (since we know we will have to sell in a few years).

Roanrider i LOVE LOVE your kitchen!!

Yes we made that fixture.  Bought black pipe and fittings from hardware store and made the shape/size we wanted.  I bought bulbs and wire from 1000bulbs.com (cheaper than a Menards or Lowes) and electrician wired it up for us.  We had him put it on a dimmer switch so it can be a soft glow or full-on light.  I'm really happy with how it turned out.

These pics are from 2 months ago still during construction.  Wish I would have had the lights off, much easier to see in a picture.

If anybody needs practice come help me remodel my kitchen this summer!!!!!  I would LOVE to put in all brand new cabinets.  But this house was built in 1995 with a TON of custom made solid oak cabinets.  Way to nice to throw out.  And would cost about 10k to replace all of them, unless we made them ourselves.  So i am tediously sanding them all down and refinishing them.  Then redoing the tile floor.

Thanks Dr. J,

We converted a barn into our house so the old beams I adore were already there.   We designed everything ourselves and found a builder that could think outside the box with us.  It was a ton of work but we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.  We moved in about a month ago, now patiently waiting for spring to arrive so we can start planning the landscaping, etc.
