| I have a nice 5 star pad, & have recently discovered my horse is allergic to wool.
What is the best pad to use, keeping this in mind? |

| I use professional choice air ride saddle pads with a felt underside. Maybe that would be good? I don't know what its made out of, but its a very nice pad. |

| LOL! love the 5 star, going to use it on someone else.
no, didn't have him tested.
did have him tested last year, he is allergic to wood by products. so he has to have pelleted shavings.
tried the corn cobs but not much of a difference from the pellets.
he just itches really bad where the pad goes, so I just assume, that's an allergy? didn't have a problem until I started using the 5 star. stopped using it, gave him a bath with selson blue medicated and haven't had a problem. |

It could be the dye, or chemicals used in the processing of the pad. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of a wool allergy without the proper testing.
If you have something that is working right now and you are content, that is good.

Location: Up and over to the right | Ladies, ladies, we all want the allergy pad but I am curious as to what color it is as well. Could the color from the dye be making him itchy (if it is indeed colored)? |

Location: Up and over to the right | Just wanted to add, wool sweaters make me itchy as all heck so wondering if he's just sensitive. Sometimes the fibers can awkwardly poke around and maybe that's the problem. |

| My mare hates a wool or felt bottom pad too. I love my ESP pad but she does not; have to put a fleece or fuzzy under-liner underneath it. Without it, she's tail swishy, gets a little bucky, stamps her feet, even tried to rub me ( and the saddle ) off on a tree while starting a trail ride! With the under liner, or a fleece bottom pad, she's perfect :) |

| well, its black :)
and last year I bought him a draper therapy stable sheet. he wears it, all the time.
thinking back, he didn't have any white spots., now, he has about 10 white spots on each side of him, from his shoulder to his butt. He doesn't have any on his neck. It is 56% Celliant® (Polyester), 44% Nylon.
I had a 5 star mohair cinch last year, he got cinchy, and he has tons of white spots through the girth area.
I got him an air flex, cinchyness went away.
and now, I tried the 5 star pad, he got itchy, terribly after I would take it off.
He is .. slightly bronc-y. Hes grown up a lot this year, he hasn't bucked hard, just humps up occasionally, but hasn't done it in a much this year.
Last year I was using a saddle right pad.

| well if he's allergic to wool you might try a best ever FELT pad, not sure if they still make them, they don't last long but it might work for you. Try finding a poly felt/fleece or you could try neoprene? I think won pad is neoprene oh and those tacky-too pads? CSI used to make a foam liner for their pads...oh and doesn't impact gel have felt pads? not sure what else I can think of!

| BOT has pad liners as well.
You could try a neoprene pad or felt. IDK what brands to suggest. |

If you are certain he has a wool allergy I would suggest looking at a back on track liner.
Just for clarification as I know people have mentioned different brands
Any pad that is felt MAY have wool contents. Felting is a process done to wool.
Best ever
Saddle rite
Wade
These all contain wool products.
I would be interested to see if your horse reacted to a shearling, or merino wool. As he may just be sensitive to the processing, or certain wools. If he didn't react to a shearling cinch, then you have a few more options for a quality saddle pad.
Good luck

| I am going to be at the vets office next week.
im going to see how much it would cost to see if he does have a wool allergy.
and I was going to say the same thing, most of the liners and felts, contain wool.
draper has a pad, im not sure constant heat on his back would be good? with the back on track? ... in the summer months. Im not real familiar with back on track.

When I researched the draper products the turnout blanket is 50% wool.
Looked at the saddle pads too and they contain wool
