I am hauling my daughter's 21 yr old horse, just to pony him and get him legged up. Last night at our fun jackpot, I wanted to get my gelding around the pattern before the jackpot. Leo (the 21 yr) is full of quirks and one of them is that you cannot tie him just anywhere or he will pull until he gets himself free. I dropped his shank hoping he would ground tie himself. No luck. So i flipped his shank over his neck and hoped he would stand. I went to lope the pattern and heard everyone laughing. Look back and here is Leo following us around the pattern. He was a ways behind us and yet instead of taking a short cut to catch up he had to go perfectly around each barrel. for example, i was done the third barrel as he was coming to it. instead of coming directly to me, he had to go around the barrel before he caught up to us. He was the highlight of the evening! What a character :)

it cracks me up as he could have went anywhere in the arena he wanted but nope had to do the pattern perfectly. I was the one who trained him and honestly there were times when i didnt think he wanted to be a barrel horse. in fact i turned him out and refused to barrel race him again and my daughter pulled him out of the pasture a year later and ever since he grew to love his job.
