| I keep seeing everyone raving over their 5 star pads everywhere I go. I checked them out on the website and they sure do seem nice, a LOT more than I can afford lol, but nice. I am just wondering what makes them different from any other decent 100% wool pad? |

They quit making the pretty colors a couple years ago. Everyone that has a blue one wont sell them! My daughter stalks FB trying to find one but no such luck. Rockyroad tried talking me into ordering a pretty color when they were quitting making them and I said - "no, the natural goes with everything". Now I'm just mad.  |

| I have 2 now of different thickness. We has the chiropractor out last weekend and we were fitting a couple different horses so we had a variety of everyone's saddles and pads out - my 5 stars were by far the best quality IMO and the softest both in texture and conforming factor. Love them. |

Nope, can't get a blue one. I even emailed 5 Star to see if I could have special treatment since I'm a nobody from South Dakota. They didn't even reply, must have thought I was kidding. I even had the great idea I'd dye one of my natural pads!!!! Until my daughter said - mom, what's your horses going to look like when the dye bleeds off. I don't know.......Blue?  |

No, I have 2 naturals, 1 black, and 1 green. 1/2, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/8 (sold to me as 1 inch) in that order. The green one was bought as my home work pad for spring when they are all hairy. |

All of mine are natural except one of the 3/4 and that's green. A local guy had a cool little tack shop and he ended up getting cancer and had to sell out. All kinds of treasures buried under stuff including this green pad that he had marked down to $75 and it still had the tags on it. Its the older style that it was felted different I think is how Deanna explained it to me. That pad is how the addiction started.
Mom and I went together and bought my brother a 1 1/8" for Christmas one year. He rides lots of colts and he loves it but he hoards it and says he's "saving" it. His fiance came to the Connie Combs clinic with us and what did she pull out but the pad that he'd been saving!! I loved it. Get a woman and all his prized posessions are getting stolen. LOL |

Location: Oklahoma | I bought a 3/4" Natural colored one with personalization (that's a plus!!!) from Rockyroad. I love it. It's very, very, very soft. I haven't ridden in it very much, but my first impressions were so nice that when I came across a black 1" on Craigslist (from a girl who had stopped running barrels and didn't need such a short pad anymore) that had only been rode in for about 2-3 months I nabbed it up!

I used to think the same thing cause I had some really nice wool pads that were quite a bit cheaper. Then I decided to buy my husband a 5 Star with our brand on it for Christmas. After it sat in the house for 6 months I decided to try it myself. I used it once and now it is always the first one I grab. You may be able to find a used one that isn't so spendy. |

I used to think the same thing cause I had some really nice wool pads that were quite a bit cheaper. Then I decided to buy my husband a 5 Star with our brand on it for Christmas. After it sat in the house for 6 months I decided to try it myself. I used it once and now it is always the first one I grab. You may be able to find a used one that isn't so spendy.
And we need to figure out how to dye them so it won't bleed on to our horses. Wouldn't that be fun! We could get together and have a party-it would be like dying easter eggs. |

I just spent pretty much the entire day taking apart and restitching my diamond wool ranch pad to take 4" off of it so it would fit my horse. I have very sore fingers, but it looks great lol! |

For the OP, it's in the composition of the pads that makes 5 Star so much nicer, softer, & the highest compression/concussion rating of them all. Many wool pads are advertised as "100% wool" but they are not. They are made of a percentage of virgin wool (I am talking the pressed wool felt, not the needled - they are a whole different ball game - Diamond & Best Ever have these & they are much cheaper to make & alot less wool). The typical virgin wool content (like on Slones, Wrights, etc) is 55% - then they have a small percentage of reworked (used) wool & the balance is any other fibers. 5 Star used to be 92% virgin & 8% reworked but now are truely 100%. And that raises the pricing. I am 5 Star's designated BHW dealer, & I give BB's a discount, plus we run sales often (the Tax Refund sale is going on now until end of April). We have a FB page also. My niece is on here (Foster's Fancy) & she works for me too. We'd love to help you if you are interested!

I got my 5 star for $125.00 + tax.
I LOVE it. It is so soft and pliable unlike the other wool pads. Normally a new pad takes me a breaking in period. It rolls, and sticks out weird. But not this pad!! From day one it was like old faithful :) |

Pretty much any thickness will work. 7/8 would be best. |
