Location: Ft Worth TX | I have a horse that suffered an injury to his hind legs. He is SOUND however he needs strengthening work for the muscles in his hindquarters and to tighten up his tendons. I have started him on lunging him once a day (we are on our 3rd day) for 15 minutes we do 5 minutes at a trot on flat ground for a warm up, then move to a sloping hill side for 5 minutes at a trot, then to the steeper end for 5 minutes at a trot, back a good ways a few times, and we cool out by hand walking around the pasture through ditches, gulleys, ect. I was thinking of bumping him up 5 minutes every 4-5 days of work and slowly adding in light ridding.
I have experience with horses with weak stifles and that's what I am basing this off of. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT! When should I see progress doing this? |
