| I had to say good bye to my best friend of 14yrs my blue heeler Mattie. My shadow, she never let me get out of her sight. On Thursday early morning, I noticed she was a little needy, by 8am I say blood in her pee. Took her to the vet, after ultrasound, x-ray we thought infection and stones. Got her on meds, and brought her home. She continued to bleed and be restless.... She was IMo bleeding to much, and a real dull look in her eye, so off to the vet at 8am. We ran blood, and another ultrasound of her bladder. In less than 24hrs she only had use of 10%of her bladder, anemic, septic, blood work was all out of wack, the vet said he was shocked that she was still alive with the blood work. Defendant cancer, and 0% chance of living. So I made one of the hardest deacions in my life. The vet gave her a sedative, and left the room, was gonna wait 10min for it to kick in, then come back in. She was laying in my arms, and I was telling her she was a good girl and how much she meant to me. And that she was my rock thur out the yrs. Then all of a sudden she looked at me, her eyes got wide, and she started screaming bloody murder, she was in unbelievable pain. The look she was giving, was like ''mom please just help me''. I will never forget it, I'm traumatized by it. The vet rushed it and put her down.
I'm really having a hard time with this, some people think, it's just a dog. Go get another. But Mattie was a big part of me, she was family. Been emotional all weekend, only leaving my room to go feed horses. Haven't ate sense Thursday......  |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I'm so sorry it had to go the route that it did. I can't imagine the terror you must have felt. At the very least, you were there to comfort her. You very obviously made the right decision by her. Prayers of peace and comfort for you. I wouldn't wish the loss of a loved one, pet or human, on anyone. |

I don't think I can ever be happy again. You cry, scream, sleep and whatever you need to do to deal with your loss of family. Prayers and hugs to you from me.

I have been in your shoes as well.....and it is so hard to let them go....

| Prayers for your loss ... they really do become part of the family that will never be fully replaced. Take joy in remembering the good times and know that you did right by her. Take your time to grieve and you'll heal in time.

| Thank you everyone for the kind words, and good thoughts. This was just what I needed when I got online this morning. I am having her cremated, and when I feel ready, I'm going to look for a pendant, that I can put some of her ashes in. |

I had to have my 14 year old rat terrier, named Tara (for Holy Terror), put down in May 2008 - I still cry for her to this day and miss her like crazy - it's so hard to let them go but I wouldn't trade the years I had with her for anything in the world |

| I know how you feel. We lost Walker 2years ago and there is still not a day that I don't miss him. I was told that he was just a dog, but he was not. He was my best friend and was the only thing that got me through my mother dying. It will get easier with time, just always remember the good times. Sorry for your loss. |

Location: CTX | I am so sorry for your loss. And you have to grieve, this was not just a dog, this was your buddy. Keep reminding yourself you did everything you could do for Mattie.
I have a heeler of around 13, and a rat terrorist of 14, and I dred the day I will loose them.... But they will be waiting for us on the other side!

| I already know losing a Blue Heeler will be more painful than any other loss I have experienced. I am sure Mattie's heart belonged entirely to you, and I'm sure she didn't feel any differently in the last moment. So sorry for your loss. |
