| So I have a horse that has been off on stall rest for a year and a half, just started bringing him back after a tear in front right leg ligament. Had his stifles and hocks injected in January first 3 runs amazing 1D perfect. Last 2 runs not rating the first barrel and is on his front end. Also giving problems in the alley way. Anyone have a suggestion as to what maybe happening? |

| Well I honestly hope that's the problem bc it's a easy fix :) He is going to the vet tonight and will be checked out tomorrow. He is a horse with a lot of attitude but never really one that doesn't work on his own. |

| The more active the horse becomes, the shorter duration the injections will last, 3 months is normal, but just be prepared it could become monthly.
Also look at an oral suppliment to help prolong injections |

Location: North Dakota | I would consider Pentosan as I have found that after one injection and maintenance with monthly pentosan i have not needed injection yet-been a year. BUT my horse is an ideal candidate as he had arthritis in the hock injected and pentosan works directly to help "wash" arthritis from the joints. Just food for thought..... |

I don't think my vet would even go into the joint that often TBH. If they are needing monthly injections he'd probably tell me to buy a new horse!LOL |

| You might want to try LASERwrap from Spectra Therapy. It worked well on my friend's horse that had a torn suspensory, but the injury was recent and the horse was treated only a few months after the injury. A year and a half is a long time. |

| It is possible from my own experience that he was not laid off for along enough time (even if your vet may have given you that time frame). I agree that your injections have worn off. I would be more interested in how your horse would respond to stem cell or PRP on that ligament. Just my own experience. While legend, pentosan, adequan ect will help, I don't believe you are getting to the root of the problem. It sounds like your horse got sore again after a short period of time? Ligament injuries are often trial and error, meaning by you running him a little bit you are now able to determine that he did get sore again and go from there. In turn you have that knowledge to apply to the future, whether it's injecting again, trying PRP or stem cell treatments, the last two would be my choices. May I ask what vet you use? |

My vet told me he does them mostly between every 3-6 months |

| I use University of Florida, they said stem cell would have been a waste of money and also the PRP bc after rechecking the suspensory they said this is as good as he is going to get. Also they said a year off stall rest and I did the extra 6 months on my own. He is only 12 I will hate to see him turn into a pasture ornament. His hocks are starting to fuse and his stifles have DJD but said the injections should help. |

Just jump on him and go or did you start out walking for two weeks, then trotting for 5 min a day for a week, up it to 10 min a day, up it to 15.. ect? If you did not do the proper rehab he may have reinjured the tendon. Doing stem cells or PRP will greatly help heal the tear if they are done in the beginning, so your vet saying that doesn't make sense to me, unless you asked about it AFTER the year and a half off.

| Yes of course I rehabbed him correctly I believe I rode him roughly 4-5 months before the first run. Well they said it in the beginning that it wouldn't make much difference because after every checkup it was getting better. So now are you saying it would be to late to give it a try? He is at the local vet today being checked out so I won't know what they find till later today. |
