And what about any contract templates floating around that may be good examples. As soon as I tried to include every detail, something will be left out...

I know of a couple people who have done the sight unseen thing.  Personally, I'd try to find someone in the general area to have them look at the horse.  This board is huge...ask around!

I purchased a 3 year old filly in October, sight unseen, and had her shipped to me via the seller's shipper. When the payment for her went through, the seller emailed me a bill of sale, and her papers/coggins/health certificate came with the shipper when she was delivered. Other than that, we had no contracts but the shippers were professional and insured, so if anything were to go wrong they would be liable. :)
