Anyone have some insights or tips to make them go away? I'm too late for valtrex, so that's out. Thought I had this one kicked, all healed up but it decided just to relocate a inch to the left

Thanks!

I use Abreva. The prescription kind just got too outrageously expensive for me. It does a decent job just gotta start it as soon as you feel one coming on. I also start taking L-Lysine when I start getting one.

This is what I use too.  You can also have your Dr. call you in a pill antiviral that will kick them quick.  You only take when you start getting one.

Denavir - I get the prescription from my dentist. It's expensive, but lasts a long time. If you start as soon as you "feel" it, it often will not even surface. If it does come up, it's gone in 3 - 4 days rather than 8 - 10.

I use this also....but if OP is interested in using this med, make sure you have insurance for the prescription.

I put carmex (the jar is the only thing that works, so not the tube or the stick!) on as soon as I feel the tingling. And I start taking 5 of the lysine everyday till its gone. ( i know thats 5 times the suggested dose but it works!!!)
Had one just last week. Started to feel it Saturday, by Tuesday the sore was gone and had a little cut. By Saturday the lip was completely healed!

Is that just the liquid bandaid stuff with the tea tree oil in it?

I just use any triple antibiotic and it completely freezes it from growing. I just use it like a lip gloss. Of course it is nasty and I make sure that I am not licking it, but it is the only thing that has worked for me. Abreva makes mine worse much worse. I have found that the cream triple antibiotic doesn't work and good as the clear on. Butbitbis usually completely gone is 3 to 5 days.

Put a dab of Mylox on it at night! A doctor recommended this to my sister and it helped a lot.

acyclovir!! My derm. wrote me a RX for one and it's amazing. You take one a day when you feel one coming on and I usually only have to take 2-3 and my lip will be much much better than if I was on something OTC. The only thing is that it has been known to give me lower back pain. I think I read somewhere that it's a side effect. It stinks, but those 12-24 hours of back pain is better than a 7-10 cold sore. I also use Abreva as a topical med to help speed it along.

I also try to take Lysine when I feel one coming on, but I'm not sure it really helps me.

If it's already existing - Miracle Clay by Dynamite is the BEST. Draws out that terrible heat/pain and it will heal SO MUCH FASTER.

I actually have some sitting on my desk b/c a coworker has shingles. I know I'm turning into my mom when I say "okay, don't freak but I'm bringing you some horse meds..."

I have been plagued by cold sores all my life and ive tried every home remedy you can think of. Nothing worked. This past November we had family coming into town and I had the worst break out of my life. It was terrible! I literally had about 5 clusters of those things. I WAS UGLY. So I sucked it up, went to the doctor and he wrote me a script for Famvir. I take 3 tablets at the first sign of one and it usually stops it in its tracks. It won't swell up or break open. It has been great so far!

Thank you all so much for the tips and advice. I did end up going to the doctor yesterday because to say the least and like one other poster said IT IS UGLY, so on a round of antivirals and antibiotics pills and topical oientment to keep infection out. I am definitely going to start the lysine with the morning vitamins to see if it will keep them at bay.

Thanks Again!

Theyre the worst!

I have had them my whole life.
My plan when I get them if I cant use the pills, I let it grow a little and AVOID touching it!
Once it kind of bubbles I take a toothpick, break it in half, so its sharp, and i pop the bubble. BE CAREFUL doing this, as whats inside is what will put cold sores everywhere if you spread it! ( i have had them in my nose before!)
I soak it up immediately with a kleenx, and then put the blue blistex on. it soothes it and helps rid it fast.
I was given a prescription for Xerese which is a cream, and I have found it to help as well. Dont know costs on it, health coverage pays for it.

Best advice, just dont touch them. Stress less. Avoid acidic foods.

I also get them almost monthly.. but I find when I am a lot less stressed I get them less. and Blistex is heaven sent for those suckers.
Good luck!

I wouldn't trust anything but my generic Valtrx to fix mine. (Valacyclovir).
I have a prescription for a monthly supply so I'm allowed to take 1 pill a day. I usually don't do that, I will just take them as needed. When I feel one coming, I take 2 in morning, 2 at night. If it doesn't feel better in the morning, I take 2 more in the AM. This usually takes care of it. I apply tons of Chapstick and ultimately try not to worry or fret about anything.
