| As I was reading ndiehl post about losing there gorgeous dog.. I thought it would be a neat idea to honor our loyal canine friends that are still with us and those that have passed away. Please share pictures and stories if you would like!
I will start:
This is my great, loyal, friend "Storm." I adopted her while I was living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Years previously, after I lost my Dalmatian, I promised myself I would never go through that heart ache again. Well, Storm stole my heart and I caved in and adopted her. Our journey together started off rocky. She ran away the first week (came back luckily) and she destroyed my bunk house in 15 minutes while I went out check horses one evening. However, she now has been with me 3 years and I love her so much! She is smart, loyal, and is worth all the words in the world to me.

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | Here's my Lucy dog, 9 1/2 years old, and been through the wringer. But I love her with all my heart, no matter how neurotic she is. She would NOT look at the photographer while we were taking pictures.
I used to raise working pups, but lost my male, Leo 2 1/2 years ago. I think a little of me died with that dog. I had his mama, and raised him from birth. He went to college with me, and out lasted my first marriage. I needed him like I needed air, and I still tear up when I speak of him.
And Leo's mama, who made it to the ripe old age of 17...

Location: Northern CA | These are my babies. The one in the middle "Pie" is my absolute pride and joy. It often scares me, because I know if something were to happen to her I would be a complete wreck. I have always liked dogs, and love the other two (Chili- Border Collie and Chuck- English Pointer), but there is just something about Pie. She comes to work with me every day, sleeps under my desk. Pretty sure I am addicted to the pointers.

Location: Oregon | My once in a lifetime dog was Katie. My last older dog Christy had just passed away about six months previous and I was dogless for the first time ever and really wasn’t in the frame of mind to get another dog yet. However, a good friend had come across a situation where this border collie/Australian shepherd needed a new home asap. Nope, nope, nope – immediately told her no thanks and hung up but thought about this dog all day long. Something told me to at least check it out so I did and the first time I saw Katie is forever burned in my mind and she forever changed my life. I even ended up naming my pet business after her! Katie had quite a following. I only had her for seven short years before a brain hemorrhage took her life and left a huge hole in my heart. Even four years later, I still miss her every single day. About 9 months before she passed, this little rat/jack terrier showed up starving, hurting and scared and although he has HUGE paws to fill has helped ease the loss and I love this little man, Piglet, with all my heart. I call him my little Angel dog.

Katie is gorgeous. Her eyes remind me of my girl. Those border collies have a way of stealing your heart! I am so glad you had her for the time you did! Thank you for sharing! Piglet is so cute too! |

Location: California | This is my bulldog - Rogie (I let the husband name him and he is a huge hockey fan, LA Kings, so he is named after Rogie Vachon). I never used to like dogs growing up, hated them in my room and the dog hair! But I love Rogie! He has so much personality and pretty much runs the house. I would have a herd of bulldogs if I didn't live in an apartment.

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | I'll play!!!!! I don't have human kids, just the 4 legged kind
This is Rock (in my signature) he was my buddy and I lost him in 2007. Such a momma's boy. This pic was taken after he ate a whole canister of sugar. Goofball.
Here is Queen Paige who rules the roost at our house. She is 10 now and a daddy's girl like you wouldn't believe.
And here is my Rex. He's my baby through and through. He is also a half brother to Rock.
If you can't tell we are partial to labs at our house. LOL They are both hunting companions AND members of the household... |

| This is my baby girl Lizzy, aka the mouse hunting queen! She will be 5 years old this year and is a mini aussie/ Jack Russell terrier mix. She's the best little hunter I've ever seen and has no fear in the world (which scares me to death)! She is the most loyal, protective dog, and is my best four-legged friend.

Location: Red Raiderland | This is such a sweet, sweet post. I love reading about and seeing so many babies that are or where someone's world. I'm sorry for those that lost their furry babies, it's heartwrenching. Unfortunately it's the nature of having animals and loving them. They just don't live long enough. I have two Dachshund now and have had several Dachshunds that I have lost in the past and I adored everyone of them. I have a girl that is my namesake on here and she is THE best dog I have ever had in my 40+ years of living. I also have her neice that I adore and they are 9 1/2 and 7 1/2 respectfully. I almost lost Kaycee to cancer in 2012 but they were able to operate and save her and she is thriving. Heidi, her neice, my red girl, was accidentally run over by our Gator about a month ago and I thought we had killed her but she is doing great today. We also have a Doberman girl, Mollie, that is a sweet, kind, Velcor girl. She LOVES her humans. I never had human children so these are my babies.

Location: south arkansas | Here are Brodee and Korndog...... Brodee is my chiwawa whom thinks he is human follows me every step and loves to ride "his" horse. My horse is so careful around him she actually watches for him so she doesnt step on him. Korndog is my husband "best furry friend" as he calls him, he makes every move with my husband. He actually goes to work with him my husband has "Korn boxes" as he calls them made for the tractor and four wheelers so Korndog can ride with him as he works my arena. If the trailer is going down the road these guys are with us. They bring such happiness always happy to see you....

Location: Southwest Minnesota | This is a great thread! I love all the pics and stories. Here is my beautiful baby girl, Poppy. I love her dearly!! I found her on the classified ads of a TV station and bought her over the phone, figured out how to shuttle her from where she was to my house, which was about 5 hours away and required 3 car changes for her. After I had it all set up, I text a picture to my hubby. He asked "What is that?" to which I replied our new puppy, she will be here in a couple days. We are a little over the top attached to each other.

Location: Lone Star State | This is Ashes, my 8-year-old super smart blue heeler. She had a stroke last year so she is not 100%, especially on that left side. She is MY "once in a lifetime" dog. She goes everywhere with me and can be protective if necessary but loves people. She used to be an excellent frisbee dog before her stroke but now just limited to tennis balls as she can't jump in the air anymore (equilibrium off). Funny story: we came home from week of snow skiing. Had to make a run into town to lowes so let her go. She is trained and the bed of my truck is "hers"...she knows to stay put. We were shopping and the next thing I know is Ash was running down the aisle inside lowes to be with us. Lol, she just missed me but I about died!
And then there is Buck, our german shepherd puppy. We just love this lil guy. He's a mess.

| So we currently only have 2 at our house ...
First - JACK - My 9 yo male Border Collie - he has outlasted a fiance, saved my life from rank momma cows, ran hundreds of miles helping me train for marathons, kept pace with my horses for countless hours while I legged them up, traveled miles upon miles across the country as my co-pilot, moved 12 times with me through college and after, worked countless head of cattle and sheep with me, and loves a good cuddle on the couch while getting his belly rubbed. He is my heart and soul and I cannot imagine my life without his soft fluffy ears in the morning!
Next - MEG - the newest addition who imagines herself as my personal alarm clock/ american idol contestant wanna be. She is only 2 this year and loves to howl you awake as soon as the alarm goes off in the morning. Quirky as heck but loyal and strong willed, she was picked up as a replacement for my SO's first BC, Ike. Meg is one heck of a good working dog who will outlast most people, horses, other dogs, and certainly any livestock you put her on. She is finally maturing and has quit stealing my slippers to pack them off and hide them - now she just uses them as her personal pillows.
