Location: Arizona | My father owns a very nice TB mare who is no longer sound for heavy riding. We're thinking about having her bred next spring. She is super athletic and not very tall at 15.3HH. I will have to ask for her papers later but any quarter horse or paint studs that you think cross well on TB's in particular? |

Location: Arizona | I'm thinking I want something foundation bred/cowy so that would be a good option. She is a big mover, off the track, and then used for 3 day eventing. She doesn't have the best attitude in the world (although much better) and can get a little excitable so I'm looking for something that is going to give her baby some turn and maybe a little more level head so don't think I will go with any race bred studs. She has amazing conformation for a TB though, one of the most balanced I've ever seen. |

| I bred my TB granddaughter of Secretariat/Majestic Prince to Chasin Firewater for the past two years and the babies are breathtaking and very personable and smart.

Location: The Oklahoma plains. | If you are looking for a sleeper and maybe affordable cross- I recommend Sunny C Ranch's palomino stud Mr TT Pacific with added value of being a new Future Fortunes stallion.
Also a local super nice horse is a roan stallion- Badgers Rodeo Red- one of my favorite offspring of his is out of a TB mare. I think his fee is $500? |

That's good to know. Honestly I've never even sat on a race bred QH. I've ridden OTTB which weren't my cup of tea but all of my barrel horses have always been cow bred. Our current mare is Peppy San Badger/Driftwood and she is great. I'm not a huge fan of tall horses simply because I'm so little. I would like to be competitive at the local 4D's and maybe some larger races too but not looking for a pro caliber horse. Our current mare we bred and trained and she isn't my favorite lol. She is VERY annoying and can be stubborn but my husband gets along with her great and she will try her heart out for him. Any suggestion on stallions? |

it's all in what you like. The mention of some Fire Water Flit stallions would be good. I am a personal fan of Firewater Finale as I have a super nice Pali colt out of my Shoot Yeah/Zevi (TB) mare. He is very personable. First Down Dash and his sons have been great crosses on TB's and most FDD's have a great temperment and work ethic. If you want to stay with what you know, the cow breeding, I would highly recomment a Playgun stallion or anything by Smart Chic Olena and a Colonel Freckles daughter. Very nice to ride and have some substance on some of them. |

Yeah, it's hard for me to judge whether I would like any of the crosses on the race bred studs simply because I don't have the experience. I love Smart Chic Olena and Colonel Freckles. Never ridden a Playgun. I know a lot of people really like Firewater Flit and I've seen some really nice ones. It would be nice to stick to what I know but on the other hand I might really like a race bred and just not even know it yet haha. |

I've only ever had mares bred via live cover and I'm thinking to get the type of cross I'm looking for A.I. may be the best option. I'm completely naive in this respect so enlighten me on the process average cost etc. |

I have a 2013 LTF colt that has a FABULOUS mind and personality. He is super laid back and easy to work with. Nothing frazzles him, even as a yearling stud colt. He hauls like the seasoned horses, and is a pure pleasure to have around.
AI, shipped- I'm no pro but this is how it worked for me.. We worked with our vet, ultrasounding on a foal heat, waiting on follicles. Then the stallion owner will collect, and send semen to your vet when your mare is ready. She was AI'd and then ultrasounded again a little while after that to see if she took. If they don't take, I believe your vet can bring them back in and you try again. Stallion owners are different on shipping/collections so you would have to research their pricing. We worked with Erin Christman-Goings, who owns LTF. She was a dream to work with, very understanding and patient with all my (millions) of questions. If you contact her, I bet she could explain the process in full detail to you! [=

Thank you for your suggestions and clearing that up some for me. Does the mare need to be boarded at the vet for that month? I'm assuming this is the only way it would work. I'm a little unsure if A.I. will work for this mare because she is 14 years old and a maiden. I've heard that older maiden mares don't take A.I. as well. So that's something else I need to think about. |

Location: TX | Shawne Bug Leo is one of the most docile stallions that you will ever meet. So much in fact that he is the only stallion that the interns at Granada Farms can collect themselves. He is known for putting turn and a sensible mind on his babies. Actually I recommend to all clients to put quicker footed horses with him because he is going to put the rate and mind on them. We are getting a LOT of race mares bred to him for this specific reason. And he is one of the only stallions to have less than 15 offspring running and ALL be money earners this year that have been entered in 2014! All offspring that have been entered in 2014 have been 1D and 2D money earners and also have been arena record breaker (out of TB mare) and 2 have won money at PRCA Rodeos, 3 four year olds have all won 1D money or futurity incentive money. One of his offspring is sitting in the Top 10 in the NFR Standings right now as a 9 year old and won 2 rodeos each by 2/10ths with Jana Bean and were 2014 San Angelo Champions. He would be a good match for the TB mare. So if you were hesitating on putting Leo with a TB mare then please look at his record and majority of the winners are out of TB daughters or go to TB in mare's lines as well. |
