This is my 3yo gelding whose color seems to change with the seasons. His sire is a cremello and I can't recall but his dam was either say bay or sorrel I think. My guess is sooty buckskin, however, I did notice a slight dorsal stripe on his hip, but it doesn't go across his top line (see pic). Sorry if pictures are to big.

I would say buckskin. He hasn't got any dun factor characteristics. The lack of leg barring is the giveaway.  Horses can have some countershading without carrying the dun gene.

I say sooty buckskin. I don't see dun but honestly I have a horse that is clearly dun with no leg barring and no ear tips just dorsal and shoulder barring and I have seen several horses that very clearly were not dunskin that had ear tips and dorsal due to countershading. Sometimes it takes testing if it's not clear.

Looks buckskin to me (: Mine changes colors with the seasons too, her winter color is really dark, almost brown, and right now she's a sooty color. Her summer color is very yellow though. My dark bay roan does the same thing...turns almost black in the winter, is currently shedding out white (he looks like an appy) and then will even out to a normal roan coloring in the summer.

If the sire is cremello the mare couldnt have been sorrel so that takes that color out of the guessing ;) Cremello to sorrel can only give you palomino.

I say busking as well. very pretty!

I really don't think he's a sooty buckskin & here's why.....this is my buckskin gelding.
The first picture is current, taken 2 days ago, he's in the middle of shedding & VERY
dark colored right now. Second picture was taken last fall before he got his winter
coat, this is the color he is every summer. Lots of people would call him a sooty
buckskin if they saw him right now, but he's not even close to being one.
