Location: Tumbleweed Capital of the World | If 3 girls are hauling together, and one of the girls is hauling 2 horses (so 4 horses total) what's the appropriate way to split the fuel? I've always thought 3 people, split 3 ways. But someone told me the other day that they think the person hauling 2 horses should pay more. Just looking for opinions. |

That is how I've always done it. It doesn't cost anymore to haul 3 than it does to haul 4. |

agree - but only to a point. split three ways is appropriate IMO, yet I'd probably not get the same mileage hauling 4 horses vs 3. granted the difference may be minimal, but there'd probably be a difference |

But your outfit isn't even leaving the yard. Fuel is only part of it, there's tires, wear and tear on the outfit, wood shavings etc. |

Location: mi | If your swapping around who's rig you use from haul to haul. Split 3 ways. If your using the same persons rig all the time. They haul for free and split 2 ways. |

Location: Alabama | Another thing to look at is did you want to haul another & there was no room? We usually rotate who hauls. We each have a 3 horse. When we are hauling, we have first option to bring the extra horse. The passenger only gets the option to bring another horse if the driver declines the 3rd spot.
Last year, I did opt to ride along more than drive. I would pay $50 of the $70 in gas. I was hauling 1 horse, they were hauling 2. |

| I've done both ways. 3 horse vs. 4 horses can make a difference if you are hauling a distance. If it's mostly local stuff then by the person but long distance hauling that extra weight can add up. Just make sure you all agree UP FRONT before you go. :) |

Location: Alabama | We do it by number of "bodies" so say 4 horses plus 3 barrel racers equals 7 parts. Divide fuel cost by 7. Each person pays their part and a part for each of their horses. Clear as mud? |

Location: Texas! | I've only been asked to pay extra for hauling an extra horse once and it seemed weird to me. Everyone I've ever asked since thought the same. I've always split fuel between the human bodies competing. |

Location: Arkansas | We always split per person and whoevers rig it was, everyone else would split the last tank whenever we got back home. That helps out with wear and tear and leaves that person with a full tank. |

Location: Oklahoma | Two Boots - 2014-04-16 10:00 PM How would you split if three were hauling each one horse and one person had to drive their own vehicle and said vehicle was used to run around over the weekend to restaurants and motels?
I would say that you combine the entire fuel bill (rig and extra car) and split three ways. |
