I have just gotten my first living quarter trailer after having a small stock bumper pull so lots of new things to learn! There are bars on the drop down windows but should I add screens as well? There is a drop down on the butt side too but no bars on it - is it safe to haul with this one open?

I think it is a really good idea to put screens on all the windows....the front ones especially. While driving you never know what is going to fly up at the window possibly. Even if it is tiny, if it is traveling at a good rate of speed it could hurt your horse. Also, I think screens help with keeping other debris out of the horse's eyes, ears, and nostrils. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Good luck and congrats on the new trailer! I am soooo jealous

I have bars on my fronts and drop downs without on the rear. I always put fly masks on mine when hauling. I don't put anything on the rear windows when open.

Absolutely! A fly mask is good for eyes but aunt prevent something from going up their nose. No joke, I know someone that had a bee hit the screen and fly up their horses nose. Horse about killed itself.
You can buy them from Professionals Choice and they aren't too bad expensive and you can I stall then easily. I've switched mine 3 times now and have been able to easily accommodate different styles of windows.

I have screens and use a fly mask. I've heard about things going up their noses so that's why they get both. But I also haul with shavings in the back because my horse just LOOOVES to pee in the trailer and I usually find the shavings dust around their eyes and that has to be annoying.

Thanks all! I always hauled with fly masks in my stock trailer too. I am going to look into the screens also. My husband always picks on me because I am a stickler for safety!!! But I would rather them be overprotected than the alternative

bluerose2001 - 2014-04-17 10:52 AM Which side of the windows do screens go on? I might be needing to get an order together for some. Over the metal bars on outside or inside?
Depends on attachment of the bars. I had one trailer bars dropped and one bars were welded in. I had mine on the inside of drop bars and the outside of the welded bars
