To edit or not to edit . . . that is the question.

In the past we let users edit their own posts.    Reasons for and against?

I'm for!!!

My fingers often type faster than my brain computes ... soooo typo's galore, which I detest in my own posts.

Also- sometimes I forget details that seem obvious 5 mins later when I read it ... it's nice to be able to go back and explain more or add something ...

My fingers move faster than my brain spells so I really want the edit back.  Another reason I would like it back is sometimes my sassy mouth tells my fingers to type things that as soon as I hit submit I have 2nd thoughts and I edit and delete.

In order to appear clever you have to respond quickly and then go back and edit grammer after it is posted.  Or...risk looking like an idiot.  Plus it is really hard to understand what people are saying sometimes, until they correct errors.

Definitely need the Edit button. Mainly for typos, or a quick add to a post previously posted. If it is about people changing their opinion, etc... do what Facebook has done, keep the button and make a log of edits available to be seen. But honestly, if people are taking things so seriously on this board that it affects them if the context is edited, they need a life.

(Would be eta...) I have a lot of incomplete thoughts that I need to finish...and i as going to say something else but forgot....shame on pregnancy brain. Oh! I remember - I do appreciate you asking if it's necessary, hopefully it will be brought back, but that's much much better than the other board where no info was given about the change (and a bunch of mods were canned...I have to say, it was eerily familiar there for a day. Scary!)

Ok that was pretty clear.  If I were Harry Reid I would draw the conclusion you did not want to be able to edit.

But since I'm not he . . . . I will consider this a vote FOR the edit, and not a terrorist movement.

Sorry, I darn near posted as gail, we are using the same computer tonight.

Good question. Many boards don't allow editing. I was curious why too. They explain that people could post whatever they wanted and then edit it later, but by then the damage would be done.

So now, if you see something dark and evil being posted about someone . . . . copy it quick, before they edit it.

(Of course, this would never happen on our board.)

Ohhh, please keep the edit option. I know I use it a lot because no matter how many times I reread what I write before I post, I almost always find some kind of mistake after it is up on the board. I would be lost without the edit.

As usual, I was late to the party....thanks for leaving the edit!!!!!

Like everyone else says- I hate my typos! Last night I did a post on my phone and it had typos. Then my phone battery died...... Plus sometimes those mis-spellings can look like something very very bad!

I have no edit button.  Which means you get Riden unfiltered.  Good luck with that.

I use the edit button alot because of the tiny screen on my phone...plus I rethink the way I word things when I've written them in a hurry. The other day I cut and pasted a news story about a lady who murdered her 6 or 7 newborn babies and couldn't delete the post so I just deleted as much of the wording as I could.. The whole story was too awful to post. :-(editing to add mine works again too! lol

I bet I end up editing 75% of the posts that I make.
Either it sounds wrong after I typed it out, or I have made lots of spelling and grammar mistakes that bother me.

I edit if I think of more ideas/thoughts on the topic that I forgot the first time. I fix spelling and grammar errors as well.
