I am just getting back into the barrel scene, took a solid year off. My horse and I have just been focusing on getting back in shape and getting him softened back up. We went to our first race this weekend and I noticed he almost bunny hopped at the first barrel. He was quite front endy and almost avoided really digging in and driving. The 2nd & 3rd he got in and boogied but on back side threw his head up.
While he still clocked, I know this must be pain related. I already scheduled a vet appointment, but unfortunately the earliest they can get me in is next Wednesday.
Would like to pick some of your brains! About 2 years ago when he was running almost every weekend our chiro and vet suggested SI injections which helped tremendously. Performance wise he didn't show he needed it, but he couldn't hold an adjustment at all so they tried the injections and were successful. Would the "bunny hop" and front endy turns be related to SI? Hock? Stifle? Never ending questions!

I agree with hocks since my horse just did the same thing and it was his hocks that needed injected. However, if they are really sore, for a long time, in the hocks that soreness can move up into the stifles and SI joint.
