Some people dont like hancocks.  I personally think you have a nice prospect if you are starting with those names.

Can you post the allbreed? Just because it says Hancock on the papers doesn't necessarily mean that there is all that much in it. The Hancock lines are getting more and more diluted and people have kept the name Hancock when they register but often times there is actually very little in the horse. I love my Hancock, Blue Valentine, Booger Red, etc horses! Gentle giants! They are quick learners, show them once and they have it, they do not like to be jacked with! When they know their job they don't want to be picked on about it.

I have had two Hancock horses and love them both!  I agree with previous posts, they are "ride me, teach me, leave me alone" type horses!

My mother and I both recently purchased 4 year old half sisters with lots of Hancock and Blue Valentine blood.  Both are super smart and willing to do whatever you ask and are riding awesome.  Mine is a big gentle giant and whenever she sees me coming to the barn she greets me and wants her lovins.

I love them. They seem to mature a little later but I've always had good luck with them. And usually they are built like a brick house which I love. Sounds like a nice prospect

We have raised Hancock horses for years. We prefer the Red Man crosses Blue Valentine, John Red.....
Our Rafter Blu stallion has 22 crosses to Joe Hanock in the first 10 generations. He has produced several nice performance horses. USTRC rope horses, barrel horses a couple of years ago a filly by him was the MO State timed event res champion. The ones we have had have been very eassy to work with, easy to break, never hard headed or broncy

A friend of mine had this horse http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/hatchs+hd+hancock probably the coolest and possibly most athletic horse I have ever been around.  His foals were all just as nice.

Love them, very gritty and tough horses. They are a bit slower to mature, but once they get something they know they have  a job to do and go do it.

I wouldn't shy away from the prospect you have. But anything with lots of Joe Hancock breeding you couldn't pay me take. I have never had good luck and was severely injured on one with many, many miles. He just exploded one day and showed his rodeo star potential.

A lot of times Hancock bred horses get a bad rep simply because of their name, people dont give the actual horse a chance.  From a gal that is riding one and has rode others, I wouldn't back up from it not one bit.

I have owned several Hancock horses in the past. They are all big, gritty, smart, and quick. What I like about the ones I've owned is they transition well from cattle to speed events. The one I currently own can work a pen of cattle, and then stretch her out to run barrels. She is never HOT, or hard to handle, and she is only about 14.3 MAX Hands. She rides in an O ring and loose rein. I would def have another one and think they are great horses.

But one thing about her in particular, is she is a one person horse, she doesn't like other people. She DEALS with my husband and farrier. I think maybe it maybe that I have bonded with her, and she trust only me??

My Hancock horse came from cross spur . I absolutely love him ! I've had him from a yearling and he had always had the greatest personality he's gritty and smart. I love how bold he is not much scares that guy . He's a little slower to mature than the others but he has a better handle than the rest and if you are looking for a horse to keep for the long run there the way to go.
