I was getting tired of seeing all these "no-makeup selfie" and "cold water challenge" all in the name of cancer awareness. Well I guess I just don't understand the point of them other than for self-promoting and another excuse to take a selfie. Many of the posts don't even mention that they are for cancer awareness. I'm sorry but by now we all are very aware of cancer now is a time to make a difference so I set up a challenge to send around facebook that gives a link to a place to make a donation. It keeps track of the amount made and I set a $1000 goal by June 18th so it kind of makes it fun for people to see it grow as they share and challenge others. You can donate as little as a $1 or $100000000. Every little bit counts. I have St. Jude Children's Research Hospital set as the recipient. I researched a few different charities and they had a good rating but yet were well known. Some other well known cancer research organizations had poor ratings and I wanted to use a well known charity to help people understand where their money is going. https://www.youcaring.com/nonprofits/i-challenge-you-to-make-a-difference-/168435

Jenbabe - 2014-04-22 10:50 AM I agree with you. And I think it's awesome that you did something about it. What a good example of how people can actually help! (When I saw the no-makeup selfie, it kind of made me feel bad because I didn't realize I was supposed to wear makeup every day!)
Thank you.
Oh and if I took a selfie every single day for a month about 25 if not more of them would be no-makeup selfies....lol.
I read an article about how someone with cancer battles every day with looking in the mirror and watching themselves wittle away into someone they can't even reckonize anymore and how seeing fresh faced beautiful young woman flaunting their *gasp* no-makeup selfes does not help. I felt that same thing when this fad started up and reading that article just made it really hit me.

Great idea! yep, I rarely wear any makeup, my husband doesn't even care for make up so I'm lucky! I don't really need it or even have time to put it on and it's expensive! :)

Well so far it seems that my friends are more inclined to accept a challenge that involves taking a selfie or jumping in cold water rather than donating to a good cause. My newsfeed has been blowing up with no-makeup selfies and cold water challenges but I can hardly get anyone to donate even a $1. I thought for sure they would be all over the chance to help out St. Jude but I guess I was wrong.
