| What's the going rate for someone to come to your house and pattern a colt or tune on/keep legged up your finished horse? I'm looking to do this at minimum part time (new job not quite giving me the hours i want) and want a good idea of what's fair and what isn't. |

Location: Northern CA | Depends a lot on location, experience, will you be boarding the horses, etc. Also keep in mind, as soon as you take money for riding someone else's horse you lose all non-pro/ammie status. This probably isn't too big a deal in barrel racing but it sure the heck is in the show world. Good luck to you! I wish I could make riding my job :-) |

| I would have to go to their house right now. I do have a place i might be able to board pretty cheap (friends) and use their arena but then i'm worried i won't acutally profit anything. I'm in NW FL. I also recently sold my trailer when i sold my horse so that's also why i'd rather go to them right now. What i'm going for is extra money to go towards buying property so i can actually do this right/as a business. |

Location: Texas | Thank you for posting this, I am planning on starting my own business as we'll but also want to ride horses for other people at their houses... I live in east texas with 17 years experience with horses... What would be the going rate around texas? It's so hard for me to find people who are willing to give me advice or help me :/

Location: Alabama | I had someone ride my horse for me a lot last year. I left the horse with them a couple of days a week & paid for feed. I paid $10 per ride - approx 1 hour a day. |

I had someone ride my horse for me a lot last year. I left the horse with them a couple of days a week & paid for feed. I paid $10 per ride - approx 1 hour a day.
I was paid 10$/ride to work out and exercise horses in college (South Dakota circa 2005). That was on top of an hourly salary that I was paid to be there cleaning stalls, cleaning aisles, washing horses, clipping, and doing basically all the "groom" and maintenance things.
