| The thing is I am traveling with another lady and we are sharing a suite. We will have our own bedroom but share a bathroom and kitchen. I know from eating out with her that she doesn't tip or if she is forced into it it's small. I do tip but I don't feel I should tip for the whole suite. I was thinking I'd leave the envelope in my room where she will see it. I've just never known if I should do this daily or when I leave. |

I always tip. $2 per person per night. You put the money on the bed and they know it's for the tip. If you don't leave it on the bed then they are not supposed to touch any money.
I have a friend that waits until check out to tip for the stay. That's fine but it doesn't the attention that tipping everyday gets during your stay. Most people don't tip the housekeepers so they appreaciate the ones that do tip.

We stayed in a suite with another couple in Key West in January. I tip everyday by putting the money on the bed. They other couple are ones to tip at the end of the stay,
We were there a week. They made our room up first everyday and made sure we had extra towells and such. The other couple had to ask for towells.
Althought the other couple tipped just as much as us or more, the housekeepers didn't know they were going to get a tip from them. |

If you are staying several days, tip daily if just one night leave tip in room. :-) It always brightened my day when I recieved one. |

Location: MD | Used to tip at the end of my stay but realized when we went to Vegas you don't get the same housekeeper, so if you're having someone clean, leave a tip for them to take. Up to 5 dollars a day otherwise I feel cheap. But honestly I have turned into the girl that has to "pre-clean" the room before I leave and just leave the privacy hanger on the door and just reuse my towels unless they are really soaked or something so I will leave a tip at the end of my stay. I didn't know they weren't allowed to take money in certain places. |

| I got the envelope idea because one year a housekeeper left one with a note giving her name and if I needed anything she'd be glad to help me. I'm glad she did because I'm sorry to say I never thought of tipping them. I just don't stay in motels often enough to realize. |

| This motel is individually owned and most of their employees have been there for years. It's my 3rd year to stay there. I've always left $20 on my last day. But this is my first year to share a suite and it did cross my mind we might not have the same one each day. So, would you do $5 a day or $10? $10 seems like a lot. I'm not very messy but I suspect from seeing her house that the girl going with me is very messy. |

Ditto Had some stuff that went missing and you could tell that my friends suitecase had been gone threw, and this turned out to be a big mess, so be very careful of the places you stay in. |

Location: Oregon | I always do 3-5 per day and leave a note that says housekeeping so they know it's theirs to take. I'm a Holiday Inn Express girl and have never felt creeped out like a maids going to go threw my stuff. Plus, I usually take my laptop, Kindle, etc with me so there's nothing of value left in the room when I leave for a day. |

| I travel a lot. I never tip a maid unless we are staying at a resort for several days or longer AND tipping is customary. I ALWAYS tip at restaurants, baggage handlers, etc, but nada at motels/hotels. They are paid at least minimum salary like everyone else in this country, right? |

I was a housekeeper at a resort about 10 years ago. I agree, people don't realize how hard of work it really is. And I never liked being called a "maid". There were alot of people that made me feel like a second class citizen because I was a housekeeper. Tips are greatly appreciated, even if it's just a couple bucks, the job is hard and you don't get much appreciation. |

Location: I can see the end of the world from here! | As an owner of a small motel...I buy the envelopes for the housekeepers to put in the rooms...to be honest, I'm a 'little' on the fence about it because some ppl (mostly Europeans) are affronted & think I must not pay well! As an employer my motto is "If I make money....you make money"...the tip thing is more of an incentive to hk, they appreciate even $1...and I feel it encourages them to be extra clean & proud of their rooms. Actually, I've tried moving them around & they absolutely resisted...they take great pride in 'their' rooms & I also encourage them to fold the towels etc...any way they wish so long as it's nice. I have nearly zero 'turn over'. Just a note: They do need to have rooms to clean, even stayovers, to make a wage...and a good establishment will not have issues of hk going through your stuff or stealing. People sometimes leave beer, wine etc...and I buy it at market value...lol...none of the ladies that work for me drink! They sometimes get tips of $20 or more...just depends. I always tip...usually at the end of my stay, especially if I have the dnd sign out. Also, our policy is that housekeeping will go into a room after a 3 day stay (we put a note under the door to make the guest aware) to check that everythiing is ok. |

Location: North Dakota | I will tip the baggage carrier but not the house keeping. I never let them clean the room anyway I do it myself, I don't want people in my room once my things are inside. I will tip a waitress around 20% if they do a good job. If they don't refill my drink and I am constantly forced to look for them I will leave a few bucks only. |

They still have to clean your room after you checkout |

Location: ND--it snows, it floods, it snows, it floods | It really depends. A couple of weekends ago I was at a hotel and didn't have housekeeping all weekend because I had the dogs with me. At the end I left $20 for housekeeping just because of the dogs. They didn't make a mess but still, it takes extra to clean the room ect. |
