Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I got a gelding that is darker buckskin but has a partial dorsal stripe. So is he buckskin or dun or both?

| He could be a buckskin dun, dunskin I think people call it. My buckskin had a dorsel stripe but its just countershading, so even though hes got a dun marking hes just a buckskin :-) |

Location: Pacific Northwest | Do you know what color his parents are? Any color of horse can have a dorsal stripe, its called countershading when the dun-gene is not present. Duns generally have a dorsal stripe with other markings - leg barring, cobwebbing on their face, shoulder shadowing, etc. |

Location: Okemah,OK | Looks buckskin to me. I have a buckskin gelding and he'll get a stripe darker than that for about half the year. Also, I seem to recall sometime saying that one parent had to be a dun to get a dun? But I'm not sure on that? |

Dad is dark dark buckskin. Not sure about mom she's either buckskin or sorrel. Can't remember which. |

Location: Finally horseback again.... | I would say buckskin. The stripe appears to be counter shading and he has no leg barring, shoulder marking or tips on his ears.
I will see if I can attach a pic of a dun.. that looks buckskin. You can see her striping.
